Teacher's Community Science Workshop - FREE

Join Pima County Environmental Educators for an interactive workshop that will provide you with data collection tools you can use at your school sites! You will even have the opportunity to adopt a wildlife camera for your school! In this free 1-day workshop, you will:

📕 Understand how using community science data in the classroom can support students' data literacy, critical thinking, and connection to their local environment
🐦 Gain experience using community science platforms/tools related to birding, phenology, and wildlife
🏫 Leave with ready-to-use activities and resources for incorporating community science data collection and analysis in your classroom

Today, we join millions around the world in remembering the extraordinary life and legacy of Dolly Parton.

Dolly was a legendary artist, but her impact reached far beyond music. She was a passionate champion for children, education, and literacy who understood that a book can open a door, spark a dream, and change the course of a life.

Inspired by her own father’s inability to read and write, Dolly launched the Imagination Library in 1995 with a simple but powerful mission: put books into the hands of children. What began in her small Tennessee hometown grew into a worldwide movement, providing millions of free books every month to children from birth to age five.

Her music will live on for generations, but so will the countless young readers who discovered the magic of a book because Dolly Parton believed in them.

Today, the education community has lost a true champion. Thank you, Dolly, for reminding us to dream more, learn more, care more, and be more. 📚❤️

Your legacy will continue on every bookshelf, in every classroom, and in every child who learns to love reading.

Dr. Leslie Anway - A Career Worth Celebrating

Join us in celebrating Dr. Leslie Anway and an incredible 30-year career dedicated to education and to the people who make our schools stronger.

For the past three years, Leslie has served as our Director of Resilient Schools, creating and building the program from the ground up. Through her vision, expertise, compassion, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of educators, she has created a strong foundation that will continue to make a difference in our education community for years to come.

But Leslie’s impact goes far beyond the program she created. She has touched the lives of colleagues and educators through her kindness, her listening heart, her wisdom, and her genuine care for others.

Our team shared so many beautiful words with Leslie as we celebrated her retirement, including:

“You built a strong foundation that will continue to make a difference in the future.”

“Thank you for your vision and your caring heart.”

“You leave an indelible mark in our hearts.”

And perhaps most fittingly, one colleague reminded Leslie that retirement is an opportunity to model what she has always taught others: listening to your heart, making self-care a priority, and tending to the things that really matter.

Leslie, thank you for 30 years of service to education and for the lasting impact you have made on our team and our education community. We are so grateful for the three years we were blessed to have your spirit and expertise with us.

How can we spark new ideas to solve our urgent economic problems? It's one of the essential questions explored in ECN 150: An Economics Perspective, offered this fall by the VOTE Center.

The mission of the VOTE Program is to inspire new solutions to our country's urgent economic problems by building a culture of respectful listening, passionate advocacy, and intelligent debate.

Students don't get handed an answer. We give participants what they need to make up their own minds by presenting each point of view in a balanced and completely unbiased way.

The course runs August 24 through December 17, 2026, and can be taken online or in person at Pima Community College's West Campus in Tucson, Arizona.

Arizona high school students who take the VOTE course fulfill their economics requirement while earning college credit at the same time.

In-person classes are taught by VOTE-Certified educators and meet once a week for three hours. Choose Monday afternoons, Tuesday mornings, or Tuesday evenings.
