We had so much fun last year with our Easter Egg Hunt by UFD Station 3 (High St) we ae doubling it up with another one at Champaign Heights. Kids of all ages are invited! See the flyers below for the time and locations. We also have the coolest Easter Bunny in the land!!!

Attention! We locked in our Plunge FUNdraising all ages event! Thank you Kappa Sigma for including 916 in your awesomne annual event! What's "cool" about this plunge is anyone can join us and jump in for free! The fundraising part is purchasing a shirt (($25) or purchasing raffle tickets to win one of the many prizes offered by local businesses. Some just donate which is "cool too." Look for a follow up poster including our local sponsors! Date: March 29. Place Narragansett Beach. Time 11am-1pm. All proceeds go to VFW 916 renovation projects. Thank you.

As an FYI- members of the VFW have lowered the following flags to honor VFW member John Sheldon who is being laid to rest today:
1) Vietnam Veteran Memorial at Dale Carlia Corner
2) War Veteran Monument at Saugatucket Park.
3) Our VFW Post US Flag.
We have been doing this at least since Covid. If a Veteran's name is on the Saugatucket Monument, that flag is lowered on their day of interment. If they are a Vietnam Veteran, the Dale Carlia corner flag is lowered. If they are members of our Post, our Post flag is lowered. This is why you may have noticed not all veteran flags in SK are lowered at the same time.
John met all three requirements so all three flags lowered in his honor. Rest well brother.

We still have 2 more weeks for students to submit essays for our annual "Patriots Pen" (6th,7th & 8th Graders) and "Voice of Democracy" (High School) competition. We are looking for atleast 3-4 students in each category. Prizes are awarded at the Post, District, State and National levels. National Winners received $5,000 (Patriots Pen) and VOD winner $35,000 scholarship. Click the link to our website and our sliding banners at the top can take you to the forms to fill out. Bat signal for our Mickey Food Pantry. While we have a few neighbor angels who regularly assist, demand keeps increasing and we can't keep up and our cupboards are bare. Picture is from today. Below in the comments is a master list, but we could use everything pretty much. In comments is a general needs list. Adding dry catfood (bulk) for our Pluto!

Who doesn't love puppy dog meet & greets. This Saturday we are hosting "Dare to Dream Ranch" and helping with their efforts to raise funds to purchase a service dog for a local veteran. All ages friendly of course.

We are partnering again with local Scouts in placing flags at Veteran graves here locally starting at 9am this Saturday at the Civil War Monument at Riverside Cemetery. Usually it takes an hour at each of the Cemeterys so if you want to help a little later the order is Riverside Cemetery, St Francis Cemetery and New Fernwood (and old.) The public is welcome to join us place 1400 flags on our heroes laid to rest locally.

Many Thanks to the SK grounds crew for putting down mulch and finishing up a project we started last week. It looks great and ready for the annual Ceremony on Monday there honoring our Vietnam Fallen we hold just before the start of the SK Parades..

Clean up project at the Vietnam Veteran Memorial (Dale Carlia Corner) is moved to tomorrow Sunday 10 am due to weather. We will try to finish weeding tomorrow before the rains begin ~4pm. Thank you
