When you arrive, come to the Janney Garden (enter through the mulch playground) and people there can help direct you to various projects (painting, helping in the art room, power washing, and more!). Hope to see you tomorrow!
GRADES 1 through 5:
You’re invited to drop off school supplies and briefly meet your teachers this Friday, August 23 from 1pm to 2pm.
Pre-K and Kindergarten families will be contacted by email with info about dropping off supplies and classroom visits.
New to Janney? Join us for one of the following:
- Thursday August 22, 5:30pm – 6pm, in person
- Friday August 23, 3pm – 3:30pm, virtual (link to be shared closer to event)
- Saturday August 24, 9:30am – 10am, in person
All new families are strongly encouraged to attend one of these three scheduled events. No sign-up necessary. The orientation is geared toward adults but kids are welcome to join!

Want to see that old costume go somewhere other than the landfill? Instead of purchasing a new Halloween costume every year, find a gently used and new-to-you costume at the Fall Picnic!
Please bring in clean Halloween costumes to donate during drop-off or pick-up in the marked container outside the gym from August 27 to September 5. All sizes from PK through 5th grade are welcome. Costumes will be sorted and ready for your kiddo to search for a new one at the Fall Picnic. This is a fantastic way to show them how to reduce-reuse-recycle.

Join fellow Jaguars for a night of food and fun! Dinner and dessert available for purchase from Angelico’s, The Big Cheese, Clayboy’s Shave Ice, Pho Wheels, and Captain Cookie.
The fabulous DJ Lady D will be back to entertain the kids with dancing and fun activities. Thanks to a generous donation from Wegman’s, we’ll have non-alcoholic drinks for purchase at the event, benefitting the PTA. The picnic will take place on the blacktop and surrounding areas (and thanks to the Spring picnic, we have a fantastic back-up plan for inclement weather). All are welcome!

Janney is looking for volunteers to assist in reinvigorating the Janney garden. Community service hours are available for students.
We need help with all gardening activities from weeding to planting to pruning to watering. Hours are available any day.

Even though Janney is one of the largest elementary schools in DC, its DCPS funding is one of the lowest “per-head” in the city.
Janney relies on PTA funds to pay for support staff salaries, technology, textbooks, classroom supplies, professional development, custodial equipment, substitute teachers, facilities repairs and MUCH, MUCH more!

Lost & Found will be cleaned out EVERY FRIDAY for the remainder of the school year. Unlabeled items that have been there longest will be removed, washed and donated/recycled. Adults can look for items on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 8:20-8:40am. Parent volunteers will help you access Lost & Found at the Atrium door at the front of school.
