Growing up doesn’t mean we stop growing.

Our goals change. Our health changes. Our relationships change. We discover new interests, face new challenges, and find new opportunities.

The same is true for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

In our latest blog, **“Support Should Grow With the Person,”** we share the story of Tory Richeson and his mother, Darlene. Tory works, lives in his own home with support, attends college, stays active, and continues pursuing new goals at 40 years old.

His story is a powerful reminder that independence doesn’t mean doing everything alone. It means having the right support to make choices, pursue goals, and build the life you want.

As Darlene simply puts it:

**“It doesn’t end.”**

Neither should the opportunities.

🌊☀️ **Rehoboth Beach did not disappoint!**

A group of Target Community participants recently packed their bags and headed to Rehoboth Beach for a getaway filled with sunshine, laughter, good food, great friends, and plenty of fun.

But trips like this are about more than a vacation.

They’re about experiencing new things. Spending time with friends. Getting away from the everyday routine. And making the kind of memories you’ll still be talking about long after the sand is gone.

From time at the beach to simply enjoying being together, this trip was an absolute blast—and those smiles tell the story better than we ever could.

“Eat less and exercise more” is not a healthcare plan.

When Darlene Richeson’s son Torrey faced serious weight-related health concerns, their family needed practical guidance, informed medical care and a support team willing to help him succeed.

In this episode of the On Target Podcast, Darlene joins Dr. Matthew Ramsey to discuss Torrey’s health journey and the advocacy it took to find the right care.

But Torrey’s story is about much more than weight loss.

He works. He lives in his own home with support. He attends Montgomery College. He performs in inclusive theater. And he continues setting new goals for his future.

Darlene and Dr. Ramsey also discuss health equity, the importance of including people with disabilities in medical research and the need for educational programs that accommodate working adults.

It is a powerful reminder that the right support does not limit a person’s life. It creates more opportunities to live it fully.

What does a Direct Support Professional do?

They stand beside someone as that person makes a choice, tries something new, builds a friendship, or discovers what they can do. They offer support without taking away independence. They celebrate progress that the rest of the world may never notice.

And tomorrow, they show up and do it again.

At Target Community, our DSPs help adults with disabilities live full, productive lives. Their patience, kindness, and belief in the people they support are felt in moments both big and small.

Target Community participants and team members recently hit the lanes for an afternoon of bowling, laughter, and time together.

Outings like this are a chance to get out into the community, spend time with friends, and simply enjoy doing something fun together.
