Our focus is the safety & health of workers in Queensland’s mines, quarries, explosives & petroleum & gas industries.

A worker has died and another has been injured in a serious incident that occurred at a Central Queensland coal mine earlier today.

Preliminary information indicates two vehicles collided at the site early this morning.

RSHQ has deployed investigators and coal inspectors to site and is working closely with Queensland Police Service and Queensland Ambulance Service to respond to the incident.

Our thoughts are with the worker’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.

40 years ago today, 12 miners lost their lives in the Moura No. 4. disaster. Today we think of their colleagues, friends and families, including Maurice and Lorna McPherson who lost their son Scott in the disaster 🩶

We've released our 2026-2027 regulatory priorities

01/07/2026

Want to avoid a $66,760 fine? Then don’t bring fireworks into Queensland.

Every year, our RSHQ explosives inspectors set up at the NT/QLD border to seize fireworks after NT’s Cracker Night on 1 July.

Check your car, caravan, bags and boot and hand them over - with no penalty.

No one wants to see Queenslanders hurt by illegal explosives.

We've just released this animation showing how a coal mine worker was struck by a shuttle car in a serious line of fire incident. We're recommending mines assess their sites for related risk and consider introducing proximity detection technology.

This could have ended in tragedy. Check the comments for more information.

We've just moved all occupational licences for explosives onto the RSHQ Portal, along with QESC applications. The Portal is the simpler, faster and smarter way to manage your licensing and compliance activities with RSHQ.

If you're a shotfirer, fireworks operator, ammunition collector, or have a special use licence - check it out - links in the comments!
