NSW RFS - Lawson Brigade

𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲𝗲 - 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟱 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟯.𝟯𝟬𝗽𝗺

Lawson crews will be in attendance at 190 School Lane Budgee Budgee, tomorrow, Wednesday 5 August, for an assisted pile burn.

The burn will commence from approximately 3.30pm and will generate some smoke in the vicinity of this area for a few hours. Crews will remain on scene until it can be safely handed over to landowner for monitoring.

🚒 Training Day Success! 🚁📱🗺️

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming our District expert in all things MDT, FireMapper and drones, Nick Pearce (Nick Pearce), to our brigade training session.

Nick took us through the many capabilities of the Mobile Data Terminal (MDT), showing us that it's much more than just a response tool. He then gave everyone a refresher on FireMapper, demonstrating how powerful the application is for situational awareness and incident management.

To finish off the session, Nick showcased the incredible capabilities of RFS drones and how they're becoming an invaluable tool on the fireground. From thermal imaging 🌡️ to aerial mapping 🗺️ and gathering real-time intelligence, it's clear that drone technology is helping shape the future of firefighting. 🚁🔥

It was fantastic to see such a great turnout, and it's safe to say everyone walked away having learnt something new.

A huge thank you to Nick for sharing his knowledge and experience with us. 👏

And of course, thanks to everyone who helped prepare lunch, especially Bryan, our resident BBQ master! 🍖🔥 (Even if our steaks don't always come out exactly how we ordered them! 😄)

🔥 Wanting to light a fire this weekend?

Make sure you follow the rules for wherever you are this weekend ⬇️

For those in the Mid-Western Regional Council area:

🔥 The Bush Fire Danger Period is still in place meaning Fire Permits are still required for hazard reduction (including bonfires) and agricultural burns.

🔥Fire Permits are not required for fires for the purpose of cooking food, provided that:
✅ the fire is in a permanently constructed fireplace;
✅ at a site surrounded by ground that is cleared of all combustible materials for a distance of at least two metres all around;
✅ the fire is completely extinguished before leaving.

For much of our district, it is still very dry and it is not taking much for grass fires to take hold and risk threatening property. Please follow the rules so our volunteers can enjoy their weekend at home with their family and friends.

Despite the easing of restrictions across much of the state, the Bush Fire Danger Period remains in place across the Mid-Western area due to areas of dry and increased fuel loads.

Fire permits are still required for any burning activities until midnight, 30 April 2026 and it is important that residents continue to take a cautious and well-prepared approach to burning activities.

Across the district, we have had four grass fires in the last week which had the potential to threaten property if it wasn’t for the quick response of RFS volunteers.

Residents planning to burn off can request a permit and notify their local brigade using the online tool at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify or contact the Fire Control Centre on (02) 6370 9800.
