The Soul Spiral does not lead away from the world.
It leads deeper into it.

Into root and bone.
Into raven cry and rain-dark stone.

Into the old remembering carried quietly beneath the noise of modern life.

Our ancestors knew that spirit does not sit above the earth.
It moves through it.

Through tree root, feather, ash, blood, silence and firelight.

The spiral is not a maze to escape.
It is a returning.

Each turning brings us closer to the living centre hidden beneath forgetting.

The place where the soul still speaks in the language of earth.

And if we walk slowly enough…
the old path begins to remember us too.

The old year is turning.

Already, something moves beneath the leaves.

A change in the wind.
A darkening of the earth.
The first quiet breath of autumn.

Fox knows.

She has walked this turning before,
through old tracks and fallen leaves,
through dusk and root and memory.

The ancestors knew it too.

That nothing is lost in the turning.
That every ending curls inward,
like the ancient labyrinth,
towards another beginning.

Old earth.
Old blood.
Old paths beneath our feet.

Walk softly now.
Autumn is coming.

Join us at the Centennial Park labyrinth at 9am this Sunday, 2nd August for a group walk led by Elizabeth Lee. Walking in community reminds us how to simply be and let others be. As Gandhi said, ‘There is no path to peace. Peace is the path.’ Sydney Labyrinth events are free and open to all.
Elizabeth is a Spiritual Director and Doctoral candidate at the University of Divinity in Melbourne. For the past four years she has been been welcoming people into the labyrinth at 10am on the last Friday of each month, offering a Gospel reading with a prompt for reflection or a question to ponder while walking. There’s a picnic morning tea afterwards where you’re invited to share as much or as little as you want. All welcome. The next walk is at 10am this Friday, 31st July. www.sydneylabyrinth.org
