Good afternoon, Fire Wardens, and First Officers,
As District Chief Fire Warden, under section 131 and section 145l(2)(c)(i) of the Fire Services Act 1990, in consultation with the A/Assistant Chief Officer, I will be suspending all currently issued fire permits (Permits to Light Fire) for the following period in the Rockhampton and Livingstone local government areas:

Midnight Friday 4th of September 2026 up to and including midnight on Monday 7th of September 2026.

With BOM forecast of high fire danger ratings, combined with low humidity over the coming days has necessitated this decision.

Note: this is NOT a fire ban – any fires not covered by the Permit to Light Fire system can still be lit with caution

For your action:

Fire Wardens - I request that you as the Local fire warden please contact all the individuals who have outstanding fire permits and advise the permit holder of the suspension and the above timeframes.
First Officers – Please review your crew availability for the coming weekend to ensure a response capability.

Please if your brigades have planned hazard reduction burns during this period, these will need to be re-scheduled to another time when conditions are more favourable.

Fire Season Ready, and so are our Vollies. Looking after our Vollies, as they are number 1. They never know how long they will be on the fire ground or even where they need to go next. So its very important they are Hydrated and Energy Levels are well maintained. Rashen Packs are helpful in times when our vollies need a break, need some energy or when food cravings kick-in 😳

Self Management and being prepared is important, so its one less thing to think about when you already have a big job to do.
