Check out this great after-school-program for Niton Central School students!

This program is for students Kindergarten to Grade 6, and it will run for four sessions from after school until 4:45pm on November 16, 23, 30, and December 7.

There are new activities each session and it's no cost to attend! Snacks will be provided.

Have your youth ages 10-13 join Yellowhead County FCSS for an “At Home Alone” Safety Course this November!

The course is designed to teach children to make safe choices when they are at home alone. Includes a safe food prep activity!

The course is held at the Peers Multiplex on Thursday, November 12 (a non-school day) from 9:30am to 12:00pm. Cost to attend is $5 and pre-registration is required. Visit www.yhcounty.ca/registration or call 780-325-3782 to sign up by November 9.

Everyone is welcome to attend these Fraud & Scams Community Presentations, facilitated by Julie Matthews, Consumer Protection Expert and Fraud Prevention Educator.

As fraud and scams continue to evolve, Julie updates her presentations to include the latest scams, emerging trends, and practical tips that audiences can use immediately to protect themselves and their loved ones. Julie's presentations are unique and engaging, featuring videos and real-world examples.

✔️ Continued formwork for the leisure pool walls
✔️ Continued concrete pours for the leisure pool walls
✔️ Continued main drain and piping installation in the kiddie pool
✔️ Continued mechanical rough-in work in the second-floor mechanical room of the Aquatic Building
✔️ Continued forming and concrete pours for housekeeping pads in the second-floor mechanical room of the Aquatic Building
✔️ Continued overhead ductwork in the new gymnasium
✔️ Continued roof membrane installation on the new gymnasium
✔️ Completed backfilling work in the competition pool deck area
✔️ Continued roof membrane installation on the new arena corridor roof
✔️ Continued parapet wall assembly and installation in the new arena
✔️ Began IMP installation on the east side of the new arena
✔️ Began fireproofing structural steel in the new arena
✔️ Continued overhead mechanical rough-in work in the new arena corridor
✔️ Continued installation of the mechanical curb at the new arena roof level
✔️ Continued masonry wall installation in the new arena dressing rooms

Next week’s plan:

🔥 Hazard Reduction Burning – October 16

📍 Location: RC Flyer fields, northeast of Hinton

Alberta Wildfire, Yellowhead County Fire Department and the Town of Hinton Fire Department are planning a joint hazard reduction burn on Friday, October 16, at the RC Flyer fields northeast of Hinton.

The burn is expected to begin around noon, weather and conditions permitting. Residents in the area may see or smell smoke.

This planned burn will help reduce wildfire risk by removing dead, dry grass and other flammable vegetation.

Following the burn, firefighters will patrol the area, extinguish any remaining hot spots and return as needed to ensure the area is fully extinguished.

Thank you for your understanding as crews work to reduce wildfire risk in our community.

Council Budget meetings will be held on the following dates at the Yellowhead County Office in Edson for the 2027 budget discussions.

🐄 Find, monitor, and count cattle with thermal and zoom camera
🐄 Hands-on flying with multiple DJI drones
🐄 Pasture mapping, multispectral imaging & NVDI
🐄 Drone spraying, cover-crop spreading & RPAS basics

Lion’s Mane Mushroom Workshop

Join Yellowhead County’s Agricultural Services along with Erin and Darryl Major of Major Mushrooms for this evening workshop on growing mushrooms.

The Presentation will cover:
- Mycology 101
- Environmental and Health Benefits of Mushrooms
- Cultivation Techniques (how to grow mushrooms DIY at various scales)
- a Demonstration on how to inoculate a grow kit.

The second portion of the workshop will be hands-on. Everyone gets their own kit and the opportunity to inoculate it to take home with lion's mane culture.

The kits will include the substrate block (which gets inoculated on site), grow tent and frame for around the block, and an information booklet with more growing details/tips and information on mushrooms.

DETAILS: November 19th at the Peers Multiplex from 6pm-8pm. Cost is $30 per person with mushroom grow kit included. There is an option to buy a secondary mushroom kit for an additional $30.
