Lakehead Adult Education Centre LAEC offers credit programming for students 18+. Earn your OSSD or pre-requisites for post-secondary. Heritage language programs are also available.

If you are over 18 years of age and are out of regular day school and you would like to complete your high school education and receive your diploma, then come in and see what we have to offer. Ask about credits or Mature Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (M-PLAR). Prepare for University, College or the workplace by improving your skills and marketability. LAEC offers English as a Second L

anguage (ESL) classes for second language learners. A copy of your high school transcript and a piece of ID is required to register for credit-based programming. Cost

Our teacher-directed, attendance-based classes provide the structure, guidance, and personalized support students need to succeed. Students can earn compulsory English and math credits for their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) by attending either morning or afternoon classes. Students can also complete college-level pre-requisite courses to prepare for post-secondary programming. With consistent attendance and support, students can complete up to two credits in 8 weeks.

Course programming is dependent on enrollment, so register early to secure your spot.

Our PLAR class starts September 3, 2026. With options to attend mornings, afternoons, or all day, students have the opportunity to earn their missing grade 9 and 10 credits, and to potentially earn credits from their life experience. Students in the PLAR class will work on multiple subjects over the course of 8 weeks: art, math, science, English, geography, history, as well as employability skills, and learning strategies.

EVACUATION UPDATE (July 14, 5:30 a.m. EDT): NWR OPP continues to advise the public of mandatory evacuation orders in the following areas due to ongoing forest fires:
🔴 Armstrong
🔴 Collins First Nation
🔴 Cushing Lake
🔴 Lac des Mille Lacs First Nation and nearby communities
🔴 Whitesand First Nation
If you are in these communities and need assistance evacuation, please call 9-1-1.

Residents in the following areas are encouraged to prepare for a possible evacuation due to the evolving wildfire situation:
🟡 Ignace
🟡 Crystal Lake
🟡 Highway 633 area
No evacuation order is currently in place for these areas, however, residents in some locations may have been directly advised by emergency personnel to evacuate as a precaution. Please continue to monitor for any updates.

In addition, the following road closures remain in place:
⛔ Highway 11 - all lanes closed between Highway 633 and Highway 623 (east of Atikokan)
⛔ Highway 599 - southbound closed between Highway 516 and Mishkeegogamang First Nation

NWR OPP is urging the public to say informed and plan ahead.

➡️ If you are evacuating, remember to pack essential items, such as medications, identification, passports, and important documents
