The Grade 6/7 class had an incredible day exploring history at Fort William Historical Park!

In the morning, students participated in a GPS scavenger hunt, building their navigation, problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills as they worked together to complete challenges throughout the site.🧭

The afternoon was spent discovering the traditional foods of the Voyageurs, Bourgeois, and Indigenous Peoples of the region. Students stepped back in time to 1815 as they prepared bannock, hardtack, split pea soup, and shortbread using authentic tools, ingredients and cooking methods. 🥖🥣

What a fun and memorable day of hands-on learning and stepping back into the past! ☀️

Yesterday Const. Haywood from the Thunder Bay Police visited Mrs. Coghill’s gr. 4/5 class talk about community safety. During his visit the class also learned that he was a student in Mrs. Coghill’s gr. 3 class a ‘few years ago’. He shared stories and answered questions. Most notably he remembered attending a presentation from the police services canine unit as a young student and deciding then and there that he wanted to become a police officer. It was so great to welcome Const. Haywood to our school and we want to thank him for volunteering his time to reconnect with a former teacher and her current class. NOTE: He is standing beside his grade 3 self in the class picture that his feature in the post.
