Imagine having to choose between buying period products and other essentials? That’s the unfortunate reality for one in four Canadians who menstruate.

Today, on , we raise awareness of period poverty, break the stigma, and advocate for change in the way we talk about periods.

Today is also your last chance to drop off new, unopened packs of menstrual products at United Way Winnipeg (580 Main Street) or Winnipeg Labour Council (275 Broadway – Union Centre) in support of our Period Power Collection Drive!

Your generosity helps build a more inclusive community for ALL Winnipeggers.

Thank you for being !

Being here for Winnipeg 🤝 Being here for youth

In 2024, 17% of youth (aged 15-24) reported feeling lonely “always” or “often,” according to CMHA National

Factors contributing to loneliness are complex, but research suggests that the introduction of smartphones and digital media is a key driver of loneliness among young Canadians, which has been rising since 2012.

Thank you to our network of agency partners who ensure young Winnipeggers always have access to the mental health services they need!

We all have a role in shaping the kind of city we want to live in.

By showing up, doing the work, and helping one another, we build a city we can all be proud of—where every Winnipegger feels like they belong.

Della Steinke began tattoo removal while working with inmates reintegrating into society at federal halfway houses.

“I think all of us make mistakes—and we don’t wear those mistakes on our face and hands,” she said. “It really does hold people back from starting a new path. It affects so many different parts of their lives.”

With support from United Way Winnipeg donors through the Spence Neighbourhood Association, Della opened Mother Ink Tattoo Removal, which helps remove the final traces of a past many have worked hard to leave behind.

Thanks to Mother Ink, Winnipeggers who were previously turned down for housing, educational opportunities, and jobs can start on a fresh path—and feel comfortable in their own skin ❤️

There’s just one week left to donate to our Period Power Collection Drive which ends on May 28!

Access to period products is essential to the physical, mental, and overall health of our communities. That’s why United Way Winnipeg and Winnipeg Labour Council have teamed up to collect new, unopened packages of pads, tampons, cups, and other menstrual products, as well as monetary donations.

Let’s work together to ensure ALL Winnipeggers have access to the menstrual supplies they need to fully participate in life. Learn more about how you can help at (link) / link in our bio.

More than 1 in 10 Canadians lives below the poverty line.

According to the latest Statistics Canada data, the poverty rate is now 11%, up from 7% in 2020. The poverty line is based on the ability to afford basic goods and services, such as food and housing.

In Winnipeg, poverty is a complex, relentless problem that impacts at least 1 in 8 people.

Your support helps Winnipeggers find stability through:

❤️ Financial empowerment classes
❤️ Life and employment skills programs
❤️ Social enterprise programs
❤️ Asset building, money management, and financial inclusion programs
❤️ Financial literacy for lower-income Winnipeggers

Together, we can open doors to opportunity and equip every Winnipegger with the tools to build a brighter future!
