Last Friday, 31 July, Ambassador Costa Pereira and Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Adelino Silva accompanied Portuguese Defence Minister Nuno Melo on a bilateral visit to Estonia 🇪🇪.

The visit included a meeting with Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur and the handover ceremony of the Portuguese Air Force contingent 🇵🇹. After four months of policing Baltic airspace, the mission powerfully underscored Portugal’s unwavering commitment to NATO and to strengthening Europe’s eastern flank!

We are proud to share that the main artist of the Saaremaa Opera Days 2027 will be the National Theatre of São Carlos from Portugal 🇵🇹.

The programme will feature Beethoven’s Fidelio, Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera, Bizet’s Carmen, and the children’s opera The Nightingale by S. Azevedo, alongside a fado evening, Lisbon Night, and the gala concert A Night at the Opera. 🎭 The festival’s 20th edition will take place from 17 to 25 July 2027 at Kuressaare Castle

Many thanks to Saaremaa ooperipäevad for the invitation to this year’s festival, where our esteemed colleague, the singer Clara Gaio, also performed fado with guitarist Oleksandr Nevskyi.

We look forward to working together this year and in the future, continuing to build cultural bridges between Estonia and Portugal

Portugal mantém um compromisso firme com os princípios da Carta das Nações Unidas 🇺🇳 e com uma ordem internacional assente na justiça, na igualdade e na aplicação coerente do direito internacional.

On 23 June, Mr Adelino Silva, Chargé d’Affaires a.i., attended the Victory Day celebrations in Rapla 🇪🇪

Victory Day (Võidupüha) marks Estonia’s victory at the Battle of Võnnu (Cēsis) in 1919 — a defining moment in the War of Independence. Fought alongside Latvian forces, this victory helped end centuries of foreign rule and paved the way for the independence of both nations. The day, it is marked with ceremonies and Defence League parades.

In the past days, 11–12 June, Ambassador Costa Pereira had the honour of participating in the Information Days for non-resident ambassadors, kindly organised by the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs 🇪🇪.

The programme provided an excellent opportunity for insightful exchanges with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Prime Minister, the President, as well as other senior officials and experts. Discussions covered a range of highly relevant and forward-looking topics, including innovative initiatives such as the AI Leap Programme 🤖, reflecting Estonia’s continued leadership in digital transformation and emerging technologies 💡.
