MVINET Holds 1st Governing Board Meeting, Reviews Consortium Milestone and Startup Ecosystem Priorities

The MIMAROPA Ventures and Innovation Network (MVINET) convened its 1st Governing Board Meeting for 2026 on August 5, 2026, in Makati City, bringing together representatives from member state universities and colleges, government agencies, and consortium partners to review accomplishments, discuss governance matters, and align priority initiatives that will strengthen the regional startup and innovation ecosystem.

The Governing Board discussed key consortium matters, including the, settlement of membership dues and organizational requirements, implementation of the MVINet Startup Platform (SPAN) Project, Track 2 workplan and deliverables, startup ecosystem remapping and validation activities, the institutionalization of the consortium's governance, roles, and documentation processes, as well as updates on the consortium's financial management to support the effective implementation of its programs and activities.

Members also reviewed MVINET's accomplishments for the first half of 2026, including milestones in governance and coordination, startup database development, ecosystem partnerships, capacity-building initiatives, and innovation pipeline development. The Board further discussed the consortium's workplan, preparations for the 2026 Asian Association of Business Incubation (AABI) membership and activities, and welcomed the participation of DICT-MIMAROPA and DTI-MIMAROPA in strengthening regional startup ecosystem development.

The conduct of the Governing Board Meeting forms part of MVINET's continuing efforts to strengthen collaboration among innovation stakeholders, enhance regional startup support mechanisms, and advance a more coordinated and sustainable innovation ecosystem in MIMAROPA.

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) MIMAROPA, in partnership with DOST Romblon, successfully conducted the Exit Conference, In-Touch with Excellence Recognition and Youth Excellence in Science (YES) Awards on July 29, 2026, at the DOST Romblon Provincial S&T Office in Odiongan, Romblon.

The recognition program honored the remarkable achievements of DOST scholars, outstanding students, and young science achievers whose dedication, perseverance, and passion for science continue to bring pride to the province of Romblon. Their accomplishments reflect the transformative power of science, technology, and innovation in shaping brighter futures and empowering communities.

Beyond recognizing academic and scientific excellence, the event underscored the importance of nurturing young talents who will become future champions of science, technology, and innovation, contributing to nation-building and the sustainable development of their communities.

Recognizing the promise and potential of the next generation of scientists, innovators, and problem-solvers, the Department of Science and Technologyโ€“MIMAROPA conferred the 2026 MIMAROPA Youth Excellence in Science (YES) Awards on outstanding elementary, junior high school, and senior high school students who demonstrated exceptional achievement in science.

A total of sixty-one (61) young awardees from across the MIMAROPA Region were recognized, including twenty-seven (27) from Oriental Mindoro, eighteen (18) from Occidental Mindoro, twelve (12) from Palawan, and four (4) from Romblon.

As they conclude their journey as DOST scholars and embark on the next chapter of their lives, the Department of Science and Technologyโ€“MIMAROPA , in coordination with the DOST - Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), brought together graduating scholars from across the region for the 2026 MIMAROPA Scholars' Exit Conference.

The conference served as both a celebration of the scholar-graduates' achievements and a preparation for their transition beyond the scholarship program. The activity commenced with inspiring video messages from DOST-MIMAROPA Regional Director Dr. Bernardo N. Sepeda and DOST Secretary Dr. Renato U. Solidum Jr., who congratulated the graduates and encouraged the scholar-graduates to continue serving the nation through science, technology, and innovation.

Participants attended a series of informative sessions. The discussion began with an overview of DOST Programs and Services, during which a DOST representative presented various initiatives in science, technology, innovation, research, and entrepreneurship that may support the scholar-graduatesโ€™ future careers and professional endeavors.

Building on these opportunities, the session on Building the Future through Technopreneurship explored how innovation, technology, and entrepreneurial thinking can be transformed into sustainable ventures and practical solutions to real-world challenges. This was followed by the session on Personal Development and Personal Branding, which emphasized self-awareness, professionalism, effective communication, and the importance of developing a credible personal and professional identity in a competitive environment.

The scholar-graduates were then introduced to the DOST-SEI Graduate Scholarship Programs, highlighting opportunities for advanced studies and continued engagement in research and innovation. To conclude the series of discussions, the session on Scholarship Policies and Guidelines addressed post-graduation obligations, return service requirements, and other relevant policies to help ensure a smooth transition upon completion of the scholarship program.

Each session concluded with an open forum, providing scholar-graduates with the opportunity to ask questions, clarify concerns, and gain valuable insights.
