D.G. EPA KP Conducts Surprise Inspection of Hayatabad Industrial Estate

Director General, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, conducted a surprise inspection of Hayatabad Industrial Estate, Peshawar, accompanied by Director (Center), Deputy Director (HQ), and EPA/Laboratory staff.

The inspection was carried out in continuation of complaints received during the Khuli Kachehri held at the Office of the Director General, EPA. During the visit, environmental compliance of various industrial units, including ZRK, Frontier Green Wood (Chipboard), Northern Bottling Co. Pvt. Ltd. (Pepsi-Cola), Faisal Plaster of Paris Units, and ARAR Incinerator, was monitored. Various environmental and regulatory shortcomings were identified at different sites.

The Director General appreciated EPA KP’s continued efforts towards sustainable development and acknowledged the vital role of industry in economic growth. He emphasized that development must go hand in hand with environmental protection and directed the concerned industries to address the identified shortcomings and ensure compliance with applicable environmental standards.

The Director General further directed that necessary legal action shall be initiated against violators in accordance with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Environmental Protection Act, 2014 and relevant rules and regulations.

EPA Northern Directorate Abbottabad Conducts Enforcement Activity at Hattar Industrial Estate

As part of ongoing environmental monitoring and enforcement activities, the team of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Northern Directorate Abbottabad, conducted an inspection visit to Hattar Industrial Estate.

During the visit, M/s Rehmat Poultry Protein Unit was sealed in accordance with the applicable environmental laws due to non-compliance with environmental requirements. The team also visited M/s Ejaz Poultry Protein Unit, which was found to have been demolished.

EPA KP continues its efforts to ensure effective implementation of environmental regulations, control pollution sources, and promote environmentally responsible industrial practices across the province.

The Agency remains committed to taking necessary action against environmental violations in accordance with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Environmental Protection Act, 2014.

EPA Southern Directorate DI Khan Conducts Environmental Monitoring Along Circular Road

As per the directives of the worthy Director General, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the team of EPA Southern Directorate, Dera Ismail Khan, conducted a comprehensive environmental monitoring activity along Circular Road, DI Khan.

During the campaign, various BBQ points, hotels, and commercial food outlets were inspected with a focus on smoke emissions, waste management practices, and compliance with environmental requirements. The teams sensitized the concerned owners/operators and issued necessary instructions for adopting appropriate environmental safeguards.

The team also monitored the ongoing road rehabilitation and construction activities in the area to ensure implementation of proper environmental management measures, including control of dust emissions and other potential impacts associated with construction work.

EPA Continues Monitoring Campaign Against Smoke Emissions from BBQs and Hotels

As part of the ongoing environmental monitoring campaign, teams of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Divisional Offices Bannu and Kohat conducted inspection activities at various hotels, BBQ points, and commercial food outlets.

During the visits, the teams inspected environmental conditions, reviewed smoke emission control measures, and sensitized the owners/operators regarding necessary environmental safeguards, including proper management of emissions and compliance with environmental requirements.

The activity aims to reduce sources of air pollution, improve environmental conditions in urban areas, and ensure adherence to the provisions of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Environmental Protection Act, 2014.

EPA Mardan Conducts Environmental Monitoring of Hotels

On the directives of the worthy Director General, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the EPA Divisional Office Mardan conducted monitoring visits to various hotels in District Mardan on 15-09-2026 to assess environmental compliance and pollution control measures.

During the inspections, poor environmental conditions and direct discharge of sewerage water were observed at certain premises. The concerned units were informed regarding environmental requirements, and further action shall be initiated against violators in accordance with the provisions of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Environmental Protection Act, 2014.

EPA Continues Construction Site Monitoring in Peshawar

On the directives of the worthy Director General, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the EPA Central Directorate Peshawar continued its environmental monitoring activities on 15-09-2026 and inspected two under-construction sites along Ring Road at Pistakhara and Hayatabad, Peshawar.

During the inspection, various environmental deficiencies were observed, including inadequate dust control measures, open storage of construction materials, smoky emissions from generators/heavy vehicles, and leakage/seepage of fuel, lubricants, and other materials.

EPA Intensifies Monitoring of Smoke Emissions in Peshawar

On the directives of the worthy Director General, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the EPA Central Directorate Peshawar continued its environmental monitoring activities on 15-09-2026, inspecting 16 restaurants/BBQ/Tikka shops with a special focus on smoke emissions and associated air quality concerns.

The activity was aimed at identifying and controlling smoke emissions from commercial food outlets, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and minimizing sources of local air pollution. Such preventive monitoring efforts are particularly important in view of the upcoming smog season and the need to safeguard public health and environmental quality.

FAO–EPA KP Engagement on One Health and Environmental Surveillance

A delegation from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Pakistan, led by Dr. Pawin Padungtod, One Health Team Lead, and Dr. Kiyal Akmatbek, Program Coordinator KP, along with the FAO team, visited the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Environmental Protection Agency (EPA-KP) to discuss One Health and explore avenues for future collaboration.
On behalf of the Director General, EPA-KP, the delegation was received by Dr. Habib Ullah Jan, One Health Focal Person, EPA-KP, and Mr. Afsar Khan (DD Orakzai).
The discussion focused particularly on strengthening the environmental pillar of One Health, with emphasis on environmental surveillance and wastewater assessment associated with veterinary clinics, slaughterhouses, dairy farms, poultry farms, and other livestock-related facilities.
The potential role of environmental and wastewater surveillance in addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR), infectious disease risks, and environmental health was also discussed. The interaction between climate change and environmental surveillance was highlighted as an emerging area requiring integrated One Health approaches.
The FAO delegation appreciated the proposed areas of collaboration and expressed interest in working with EPA-KP on future initiatives. Potential FAO support for capacity building, technical training, and strengthening environmental surveillance capabilities was also discussed.
The meeting marked a positive step towards strengthening collaboration between FAO Pakistan and EPA-KP and advancing an integrated approach to human, animal, and environmental health in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
EPA-KP remains committed to strengthening the environmental dimension of One Health through science-based surveillance, regulation, capacity building, and inter-sectoral collaboration.

As per Directives of worthy Director General EPA,a team of EPA Central Direcorate Peshawar monitored a total of (24) restaurants/hotels in District Peshawar dated 14/09/2026.
During inspection,heavy smoke emission was observed from the restaurants/hotels.
The Agency will ensure compliance of KP EPA act 2014 and the matter will be dealt with as per law.
