The application period for the Alaska Power Association scholarship programs is still open! But don't wait too long, the deadline of July 27 will be here before you know it.

Alaskan college and trade school students! Alaska Power Association offers two scholarship programs - one for engineering students and one for Alaskans studying the trades (that one's in partnership with IBEW Local 1547). The application periods for both are open now!

Last week, Alaska Power Association held its annual Federal Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. The fly-in is an important part of APA's federal advocacy.

APA members from across the state spent three days in offices all over the capital. From meeting with Alaska's congressional delegation, to offices at the Department of Energy and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, it was a full week of connections and progress in D.C.

Anchorage hosted a busy energy week as Alaska Power Association members and staff took part in the Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference and the National Hydropower Association’s Alaska Regional Meeting. At ASEC on Tuesday, Executive Director Crystal Enkvist moderated the “AI Impacts and Opportunities” panel, and on Thursday at the NHA meeting, Deputy Director Michael Rovito presented a state legislative overview.

Alaska Power Association member CEOs Bill Stamm of Alaska Village Electric Cooperative and Tom Atkinson of Kotzebue Electric Association Inc met with U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski this week to discuss strategies for mitigating the impacts of high fuel prices on Alaska’s rural communities.

APA Deputy Director Michael Rovito is in Washington, D.C. this week for the Northwest Public Power Association fly-in and he had a very productive meeting with Sen. Lisa Murkowski this morning.

From hydropower licensing reform to diesel fuel costs and supply issues and many, many other topics, it was - as usual - time well spent with the Senator.
