We celebrate an historic moment for Alaska Native healthcare and Tribal self-determination.

At Afognak Native Corporation, we are proud to stand alongside Alaska Tribes and the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium in recognizing this important milestone: Alaska Tribes now own the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC).

This achievement reflects generations of Tribal advocacy, leadership, and commitment to ensuring Alaska Native people have a strong voice in their healthcare and their future. The transition of ANMC from federal ownership to Tribal ownership is more than symbolic, it strengthens Tribal self-determination and ensures this vital facility remains guided by the People and communities it serves.

We are proud to be a partner in this commitment and celebrate what can be accomplished through Tribal leadership, advocacy, collaboration, and perseverance.

Congratulations to all who helped make this historic moment possible.

Thank you to the PIP team for walking us through their operation and showing us the work that goes into every step of the printing process for products like our Shareholder Newsletter.

There is power in knowing we are not walking alone. Our connections to one another are more than relationships; they are threads that tie us to our ancestors and our homeland. As Afognak Alutiiq People, our strength lives in community. We carry values of sharing, cooperation, respect, family, and caring for one another. When we come together, we create space for our culture to live, grow, and be carried forward.

Sometimes reconnecting with our Alutiiq identity begins with something simple: visiting with an Elder, learning a word, hearing a story, gathering with family, sharing a meal, returning to the land, or simply finding others who understand that feeling of searching for belonging through connection.

You don’t have to know everything to belong. You don’t have to have all the answers to begin. You only have to take the first step toward connection. When we collaborate, we strengthen one another. When we share what we know, we keep our knowledge moving. When we make room for one another, we build a stronger community. Our culture is not only something we inherit; it is something we live, practice, share, and carry forward together.
