The Atchison County Treasurer’s Office is closed on December 24 and 25 for the Christmas holiday. The office is also closed on December 31 for year-end balancing and on January 1 for New Year’s Day.

HEAVY/TRUCK and TRAILER RENEWAL NOTICE: The Kansas Department of Revenue mailed renewal notices for heavy/farm trucks and trailers. However, those renewals cannot be completed in our office until January 2 or later (due by February 28). Thank you!

Property tax statements should arrive next week in the mailboxes of Atchison County taxpayers. First half or full tax payments are due December 22. (The due date is extended as December 20 falls on a Saturday.)

There are several ways to pay your taxes:
•IN PERSON at the Treasurer’s Office (regular hours are 8:30 am to 4:55 pm, Monday through Friday);
• By utilizing the courthouse DROP BOX located on the north side of the courthouse (by midnight on December 22);
• By MAIL to 423 N 5th, Atchison KS 66002 (postmarked by December 22 to avoid penalties and interest), or
• ONLINE by following the "PROPERTY TAX PAYMENT" link on our webpage at atchisoncountyks.org (you may also view your taxes on the webpage)

The Atchison County Treasurer's office is now able to process motor vehicle transactions. At this time, we are processing EXPIRED renewals and EXPIRED new purchase registrations (past 60 days from date of purchase).

(If your last name ends in C or D, we ask that you wait until later in the month of April to allow us to serve the customers with expired registrations. April renewals (C, D) don't expire until April 30.) This also applies to new purchase transactions within the 60 days from date of purchase.)

3/28/25 UPDATE

The Atchison County Treasurer’s office is still unable to access the state’s motor vehicle system.

Renewals can be done online at iKan.ks.gov if you have a PIN on the renewal notice. (Please DO NOT go to another county. They CANNOT renew or register new vehicles for other counties.)

New vehicles can not be registered in Atchison or any other counties at this time.

If you need to renew, you can do so using the iKan app or website (see below). As long as your insurance pulls into iKan, you may renew this way. (The VINs must match with the insurance. Please double check the accuracy on your insurance card to verify it matches if it does not pull in.)
