She has been connecting with community members, partners, and supporters, and looks forward to continuing to listen, learn, and build more meaningful relationships throughout our community.

Today, we’re holding Dolly Parton’s family and loved ones close in our hearts.

Dolly’s belief that every child deserves the joy, confidence, and possibility found in a book has changed lives around the world—including right here in Kennebec County. Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Kennebec County, more than 2,000 local children receive a book in their mailbox each month.

We cannot thank Dolly enough for all she has done to advance youth opportunity. Her extraordinary legacy lives on through Literacy Volunteers of Kennebec, a United Way of Kennebec Valley funded partner, whose dedicated team helps ensure that children in our community have access to meaningful literacy opportunities one book at a time.

Dolly Parton gave the world songs people knew by heart.

Through her Imagination Library, she also gave millions of children something to hold in their hands: a book of their own.

What began as the idea of mailing a free, age-appropriate book to a child every month grew into a global movement helping children discover the joy of reading from the very beginning.

Since 2009, United Way has been proud to help carry that vision into communities, partnering with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library so more children could grow up with books of their own.

Dolly’s work showed how something as simple as a book could open a door to possibility. Her generosity and belief in children have helped shape generations of young readers.

We honor Dolly’s remarkable life, her friendship with United Way and the generations of young readers whose lives will continue to be shaped by the stories she helped place in their hands. Thank you, Dolly. ❤️

We’re proud to celebrate the incredible individuals who make Kennebec County a stronger, more caring community.

Today’s Community Hero is Dave Dostie, who works for the State of Maine and owns his own photography business.

Dave generously uses his photography talents to capture the spirit of our community. From local events and gatherings to nonprofit initiatives and celebrations, he consistently gives his time and creative expertise to help tell the stories of the people and organizations making a difference across the region.

United Way of Kennebec Valley has experienced his generosity firsthand. Dave donated his time and skills to photograph our 2023 Live United photoshoot and 2025 Unignorable Campaign, helping us share the stories behind our mission and the people we serve.

This afternoon, our team gathered virtually to celebrate Courtney Yeager on her final day as President & CEO of United Way of Kennebec Valley. While Courtney has already made her move to Ohio, we were grateful for the opportunity to come together one last time to recognize her and all she has meant to UWKV.

It was a bittersweet moment for all of us. While we are sad to see her go, we are filled with immense gratitude for everything she has done for United Way of Kennebec Valley and are excited to see what comes next as she begins this new chapter.

Courtney, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything you have given to UWKV.

When local businesses invest in their communities, the impact reaches far beyond their doors. And you don’t have to be a major corporation to make a difference.

In 2025, 16 local small businesses participated in United Way of Kennebec Valley’s 365 Small Business Circle, raising $9,490 to support nonprofit and school-based programs across our community.

Through owner contributions, employee and customer giving opportunities, and fundraising events, these businesses show that meaningful change can start with as little as $1 a day, 365 days a year.

Their support is more than a financial gift—it’s an investment in the people, families, and neighborhoods that make our community strong.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Monday for our 56th Annual Golf Scramble, presented by Charlie’s Family of Dealerships! It was a special day on the course, and together, we raised a record-breaking $27,621.49 to support United Way’s community impact initiatives. This is a 10% increase from last year, making this year's event the most successful to date!

Congratulations to our winning teams: Kennebec Valley Chamber (1st Gross), Goose River Golf Club (2nd Gross), Wipfli (1st Net), and Central Maine Power (2nd Net).
