Melrose Street/Lynn Fells Parkway intersection Project update! I, along with City of Melrose - City Government, have worked to support and advance the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation's efforts to deliver a safer intersection with new traffic signals, ADA-compliant ramps, and curb extension throughout my time as the State Rep. I’m thrilled that this project was completed during this school year! This month, after hearing from residents, I asked DCR to review the signal timing to ensure there is safe and timely passage for vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians. DCR's engineering group visited the location last week and determined adjustments to be made to the traffic signal detection technology. These adjustments, including enabling the pedestrian detection, should improve both the vehicle wait times and the crossing countdown for pedestrians in the crosswalk. The necessary contractor has been contacted, and the adjustments are projected to have a turnaround time of 4-6 weeks. I will continue to press DCR to ensure needed safety infrastructure and parkway projects are completed to make the safest it can be.
