UPDATE:
Leak has been stopped and South Cannon Blvd has been reopened. Gas company will remain at the site continuing repairs, so please use caution in the area.
TRAFFIC ALERT
Kannapolis firefighters are currently working with Enbridge, the natural gas provider, to contain a gas leak on South Cannon Boulevard near Dakota Street. The leak was caused when a construction crew struck a natural gas line.
Two businesses in the immediate area have been evacuated as a precaution.
All lanes of South Cannon Boulevard are currently closed at Dale Earnhardt Boulevard. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
Concord Fire, Cabarrus EMS, and the Kannapolis Police Department are also on scene assisting with the incident. Salisbury Fire Department and Landis Fire Department are providing coverage assistance while Kannapolis crews remain committed to the scene.
No injuries have been reported. The street closure is currently estimated to last approximately 1–3 hours.
