The Youth Business Fair presented by Carter County Bank gives anyone ages 7-18 the opportunity to create a business and make money from the goods or services they sell.

Come visit Downtown Elizabethton Sunday afternoon, Sept. 27, from 1-4 p.m. to support these businesses. They’ll be along E. Elk Avenue Bridge and Riverside Drive.

Carter County Bank’s sponsorship allows them to join without a cost and keep all the money they earn.

Dolly's ✨sparkle✨ was always about more than rhinestones and jewels. She knew how to dream big and help others find a little more magic along the way.🩷

Downtown Elizabethton shined bright today, Sept. 22, as hundreds of pre-K, head start, and kindergarten students from Carter County Schools and Elizabethton City Schools took part in the annual Book It to the Bridge celebration. Dressed in costumes and waving pom-poms and signs, the students danced and cheered their way through downtown to Covered Bridge Park in honor of Dolly and her Imagination Library.📚

This year’s celebration was especially meaningful as we remember the lasting legacy Dolly created through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. More than 500,000 books have been given to children in Carter County, opening the door to new stories and big imaginations.

The first annual Give Like Dolly Day will be this Friday, Sept. 25, and will offer a chance for people around the world to carry that legacy forward.

Please join us in officially welcoming the Honorable Teresa Murray Smith to the bench as Elizabethton’s Municipal Court Judge!

Judge Stacy Street of the Court of Criminal Appeals, Eastern Section, swore Judge Murray Smith into office during a ceremony held Tuesday, Sept. 8, in the Elizabethton City Hall Council Chambers.

Teresa has served as an appointee from the Elizabethton City Council since 2025 and was elected to serve for the next two years during the 2026 election cycle. As Municipal Court Judge, she will oversee municipal code violations and Elizabethton Police Department citations, with a goal of making courtroom operations more effective.

A longtime member of the community, Teresa is actively involved in the Kiwanis Club of Elizabethton and St. Peter the Apostle Anglican Church in Kingsport. She now lives on a four-generation family farm and home in Elizabethton with her dog and two horses.

Before returning to Elizabethton more than a decade ago, Teresa lived in Kingsport and served as Assistant District Attorney General for the state of Tennessee. She graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1975 and Winston College of Law at the University of Tennessee in 1977.

Job Alert: The city of Elizabethton is looking for an Associate Golf Professional at the Elizabethton Municipal Golf Course.

The Position: The Associate Golf Professional performs intermediate work in assisting the General Manager of Golf Operations in the day-to-day operations of the pro shop and manages special events, programs, and outings. This position reports to the General Manager of Golf Operations.

Responsibilities:
~ Provide a positive and rewarding experience for our golf patrons
~ Provide leadership for our pro shop staff
~ Oversee the pro shop employee schedule
~ Plan and direct tournaments and outings
~ Provide the General Manager of Golf Operations with reports that will help budget projections
~ Implement and organize new and existing programming such as junior golf, ladies’ days, senior events, and play days
~ Manage and monitor our POS management system, tee sheet, and golf cart fleet
~ Work required pro shop shifts
~ Other duties as assigned

Skills:
~ Thorough knowledge of the golf business and customer service
~ Thorough knowledge of tee sheet and POS management
~ General turf knowledge
~ Ability to work in fast paced environment
~ Strong organizational skills
~ Highly motivated to learn and pursue professional advancement
~ Eagerness to grow the business and expand the client base
~ Must be a team leader
~ Proficient in using Microsoft Word and Excel

Requirements:
~ High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and five (5) years’ experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

⛳ The Position: The Golf Superintendent performs difficult technical work supervising the maintenance and development of the municipal golf course. The position shall provide players with a course and practice areas which provide excellent playing conditions and exceptional turf management. This position reports to the General Manager of Golf Operations.

Responsibilities:
~Plan, assign, schedule and manage the municipal golf course maintenance and vehicle maintenance operations
~Supervise and train staff on irrigation and drainage controls, watering and pond maintenance, wells, pumps, and automatic controls
~Manage the application of insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides to the course
~Ensure all types of turf grass are properly planted, fertilized, and maintained
~Inspect the course daily and schedule the maintenance work needed
~Ensure the course is clean, aesthetically attractive, and presentable at all times
~Other duties as assigned

Skills:
~Thorough knowledge of golf course turf-grass development, care, and maintenance
~Thorough knowledge of tools and equipment used in the operation of a golf course
~Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of golf course maintenance
~Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with the public and fellow employees
~Excellent customer service skills
~Proficient with computer programs

Requirements:
~Bachelor's Degree in Golf Course Turf Management, Horticulture or Agronomy with a Turf Grass Major or equivalent and considerable experience in the maintenance of golf courses, with at least two (2) years of supervisory experience in course maintenance
~Certified pesticides licenses from the Department of Agriculture
~Valid Driver’s License

Annual Pay: $64,875.20

This morning, Elizabethton Parks and Recreation, City Staff, and Members of City Council celebrated the ribbon-cutting of our newest park, Sandra Renee Greene Park, located at 810 N. Pine Street along the Mill Race section of the linear path. This 1.3-acre lot includes a fenced-in playground for kids to climb, slide, and explore. A generous donation from the late Louie Greene made this playground possible.

At the ribbon-cutting this morning, Paul Bellamy and Dale Fair, friends of Louie Greene, spoke in his honor. Louie funded this playground in memory of his daughter, Sandra Renee, so that children in the community will have a safe place to play for generations to come.
