In honor of school starting back up, here's a fun throwback photo from the Morrison School.

The students and teachers of the Morrison School in Morrison, Jefferson County, Colorado, stand for a photo in front of their school.

The schoolhouse was built by George Morrison in 1875 of native sandstone and grades 1 through 8 were taught there. One of the teachers at this time was Mr. Porter. The building was used as a school until 1955 and is now a private residence.

September is Workforce Development Month in Jeffco

When people have access to quality jobs, training and career pathways, families are more financially secure and local businesses are better positioned to succeed.

Workforce development is about meeting people where they are. That means helping job seekers identify opportunities, gain in-demand skills and overcome barriers to employment.

Strong connections between businesses, educators, workforce organizations and community partners help ensure training programs reflect the skills employers need.

The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners proclaimed September 2026 as National Preparedness Month. This month is a reminder to make a plan before you need one. Families should know how they will communicate, where they will meet and how they will respond if they need to evacuate or shelter in place.

Build and maintain an emergency kit—keep essential supplies such as water, food, medications, flashlights, batteries and important documents readily available.

Be sure to sign up for emergency alerts at www.LookoutAlert.com to ensure you are informed in the event of an emergency.

Every year on August 31, International Overdose Awareness Day unites people around the world in taking action on overdose.

This year’s theme is: 25 Years On. Still Needed.

The reality is that we shouldn’t still need this day—but we do.

Overdose continues to impact every community, even though it’s preventable. We have the knowledge and tools to reduce harm and keep people safer. When we speak openly, we help build a world where fewer lives are cut short.

Earlier this month, the Jeffco Board of Commissioners proclaimed Aug. 31 as Overdose Awareness Day.
