The First Judicial District will hold the next Fresh Start event on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jefferson County Administration and Courts Facility, 100 Jefferson County Parkway in Golden. Boulder and Denver counties will host corresponding events.

People with active warrants in Gilpin or Jefferson counties in some categories will have an opportunity to resolve their case without being arrested.

The Fresh Start event will not only benefit individuals with outstanding warrants but will cut down on the costs to taxpayers and allow law enforcement to direct their resources toward offenders who commit higher-level crimes and directly victimize others in the community.

Scammers are increasingly targeting grandparents by calling and pretending to be a grandchild in trouble, often saying they’ve been arrested and urgently need bail money. Sometimes they even bring a fake “attorney” onto the call to make the situation sound more convincing.

Between 2024 and 2025, the number of scam victims that fell in the 60+ age category had doubled.

Because this scam is becoming so common, families are encouraged to create a shared code word that can be used to confirm someone’s identity during unexpected or high‑pressure calls.

November is Veterans Appreciation Month in Jeffco.

This morning, the Jefferson County Commissioners were joined by Frank Cordova, a U.S. Navy Veteran and Director of Employment Services at ServiceSource.

More than 5% of Jeffco’s adult population have veteran status. In addition to the number of residents who are veterans, Jeffco employs roughly 200 veterans.

Veterans often face unique challenges, including physical and mental health struggles and difficulty transitioning to civilian life.

Many veterans experience things like homelessness, PTSD, and employment barriers, often without being aware of resources.

Jeffco is fortunate to have an amazing Veterans Services team that works hard to connect veterans with benefits, community resources, employment assistance, and more.

Those individuals who served in the United States Armed Forces have selflessly given to our nation, protecting our homeland, promoting peace and safeguarding our values through unwavering dedication in times of war and peace.
