Every year on August 31, International Overdose Awareness Day unites people around the world in taking action on overdose.

This year’s theme is: 25 Years On. Still Needed.

The reality is that we shouldn’t still need this day—but we do.

Overdose continues to impact every community, even though it’s preventable. We have the knowledge and tools to reduce harm and keep people safer. When we speak openly, we help build a world where fewer lives are cut short.

Earlier this month, the Jeffco Board of Commissioners proclaimed Aug. 31 as Overdose Awareness Day.

The Jefferson County Planning & Zoning Division is asking associations to update contact info to make sure groups receive notices of regulation updates and development cases within their area. Associations include HOAs and community groups.

The Mountain Pine Beetle conversation continues.

The Ponderosa Mountain Pine Beetle Task Force was created by Governor Polis in response to a mountain pine beetle outbreak affecting ponderosa pine forests along Colorado’s Front Range.

The task force meets regularly and is charged with developing coordinated, science-based strategies to protect Colorado’s forests, communities, critical infrastructure, and water resources over the next decade.

Last week's meeting was held at the Jefferson County Administration and Courts Facility in Golden. Jeffco Commissioner Lesley Dahlkemper was appointed to be a member of the task force, and has been a regular participant in the Pine Beetle Task Force meetings.

The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners is bringing back in‑person town halls!

The community members have expressed a desire for an in‑person option.

The next town hall will take place at the West Metro Training Center, located at 3535 S. Kipling Street in Lakewood, beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

This particular discussion will focus on wildfire preparedness and the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) code changes. Subject matter experts from West Metro Fire Department, Jeffco Sustainability, Building Safety and Planning and Zoning will be on hand to answer questions.

Nate Whittington and Kate Cannon from the Jefferson County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) share where to find trusted, real‑time information during a crisis and what the OEM does both before and during major incidents to keep the community safe.
