Every 11th day of every month is "Buddy Check Day".
Today we give a shoutout to our fellow uniformed brothers and sisters who serve our communities through firefighting, emergency services and police services.
September 11th is an important day for us to reflect and remember how we Americans came together in a time of need.
Pick up your phone, and call your veteran / first-responder friend, family or a fellow compatriot today.
Call / Text / Email / Message that veteran or first- responder today to shoot the breeze, see what they're doing for the weekend, hear another war story that's been told a thousand times, reminisce about that foxhole or CHU that you shared years ago!
Check in, and take care of each other!
Don't forget this Sunday! The American Legion is hosting a 5K (3 mile) run/walk from The American Legion Harrisburg Post # 472 through Mason Park and back.
This is a slow casual walk to reflect on the events of that day and to show appreciation and respect to our local first responders.

Remember writing letters (not texting, or email) to your parents about military life? Sure we omitted 75% of what happens in the barracks, but sending and receiving real mail meant something different than the electronic messages these days.
Lets just hope your parent's didn't send basic-training contraband.
Missing those forever on patrol🌺.

Have you (or someone you know) lost your DD214?
It's actually more common than you think, especially as live goes on after the military. However it's always a good thing to have your DD214 around in case you need any type of assistance under your veteran status later on in life.
READ MORE HERE: https://www.harrisvets.com/media/lost-dd214
Whether it is applying for a home loan, seeking further education, applying benefits to your spouse or children, the DD214 is the key to it all!
(For those who aren't military, the DD214 is your military "transcript" that shows all that you have done after separating from the militay)
Did you know that you could request a new DD214 from the National Archives? Find out more here.
Did you serve in the military?🎖️Do you live in Central-East Houston?

Good Morning! Did you know about the Harris County Mental Health Jail Diversion Program? This program has been a major help to veterans who need Mental Health assistance who would otherwise be incarcerated or subjected to a cycle of incarceration.
We’re proudly presenting our good friends at the “Diversion Center” The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD , Elizabeth Hernandez and Shalanda Williams, with Certificates of Appreciation to show the difference that they have made for the veteran community. When a veteran is identified who could benefit from Mental Health intervention, the “Diversion Center” staff like Elizabeth and Shalanda help to ensure their safety and well-being as they contact us to work on their cases.
As many of us at Harris County Veterans Services Department are veterans ourselves, we understand the difficulties that some fellow service members face, THANK YOU for Elizabeth, Shalanda and the Diversion Center staff for being there to take care of our brothers and sisters in their time of need!
