Good Morning! Did you know about the Harris County Mental Health Jail Diversion Program? This program has been a major help to veterans who need Mental Health assistance who would otherwise be incarcerated or subjected to a cycle of incarceration.

We’re proudly presenting our good friends at the “Diversion Center” The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD , Elizabeth Hernandez and Shalanda Williams, with Certificates of Appreciation to show the difference that they have made for the veteran community. When a veteran is identified who could benefit from Mental Health intervention, the “Diversion Center” staff like Elizabeth and Shalanda help to ensure their safety and well-being as they contact us to work on their cases.

As many of us at Harris County Veterans Services Department are veterans ourselves, we understand the difficulties that some fellow service members face, THANK YOU for Elizabeth, Shalanda and the Diversion Center staff for being there to take care of our brothers and sisters in their time of need!

Have you checked in on your 🪖 veteran friend, family or a fellow compatriot today?
Every 11th day of every month is "Buddy Check Day"!
For those who served, you know how it is to check with your fellow Soldier, Marine, Sailor, Airman, Coastie and Guardian.
Call / Text / Email / Message that veteran or service member today to shoot the breeze, see what they're doing for the weekend, hear another war story that's been told a thousand times, reminisce about that foxhole or CHU that you shared years ago!
Check in, and take care of each other!

Morning everyone! Today we’d like to thank our partners at BakerRipley , especially our friend, Jessica Holmes, who has tirelessly worked with us on Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF is funded by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs ) and their housing placement.

One of our major initiatives at Harris County Veterans Services Department is to help stabilize at-risk veterans who are in rehab, homeless, or even turning a new page in life after incarceration. As many of us at the HCVSD are veterans, we understand the difficulties in re-establishing ourselves in a new community. The Baker Ripley Veteran Services team has provided countless hours to help house veterans under the SSVF grant.

We’d like to give Jessica and the entire staff at Baker Ripley a hearty THANK YOU for making Harris County a better place for veterans… even with our 10pm after-hour calls for help!

You smell the distant scent of napalm while crouched behind a wall of sandbags with mosquitoes buzzing around you while you clutch onto your M16. You flip off the safety. *click*

Shhh… Quiet!

At a split second, the M60 machine gun goes off on the other side of the fire base: rap-rap-rap-rap… “200 meters and closing!”, calls out the lieutenant, as he quickly radios up higher for fire support…

It’s 🪖 Vietnam Veterans Day today.

Our Vietnam Conflict generation endured what many of us would never see in our lifetime. Honor them today. Thank them today.

Over the past year, VA has started to process service-connected disability claims for six new presumptive conditions related to exposure to hazardous materials. Veterans who served in the Southwest Asia theater of operations and developed these conditions within 10 years of military service are now eligible to receive disability benefits and access to VA health care.

Good morning! Allow me to introduce myself. First & foremost, I’m a retired Army First Sergeant, and continue working for the military as a defense contractor – recruiting for KBR. Additionally, before joining KBR in 2019, I worked for the Fort Hood Transition Assistance Program for 12 years. I also served as TAP’s Marketing Coordinator for 5 of those years, bringing employers opportunities to Fort Hood and administrating all our career-related events. That said, I completely understand service members and the stress that surrounds nearly every aspect of transitioning back into civilian life. I recruit for the Marines Corps’ Prepositioning Program (MCPP), which provides maintenance and logistics services for critical ground combat vehicles and support equipment for the Marines. In our Florida and overseas operations, we provide forward logistics support to the USMC in support of contingency operations and sustainment operations. While I recruit specifically for our Shipboard (deployed) assignments, we have opportunities on Camp Arifjan, Kuwait and in Jacksonville, Florida. The majority our of jobs support ground vehicles and logistic (supply) operations, though as a global employer, KBR has opportunities for transitioners of nearly every military occupation. Our MCPP contract has an emphasis on Engineer (construction) Equipment, Tracked Vehicles, and all Wheeled Vehicles, but also looks for Radio Repair Techs, Ammo Techs, & Supply veterans. If I can ask you to share our career flyer with your transitioning Soldiers, I’m available to answer their questions about our jobs and the application process. As a veteran, I hate to see any service member depart the military without a solid transition plan – meaning a career awaiting them and their family. Thank you. Robert (Bob) Schumacher
