Twenty-five years.
Twenty-five years since our nation woke up to a morning that changed our history forever.
On September 11, 2001, 2,977 innocent lives were taken. Fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, friends, and coworkers never made it home. Among them were hundreds of firefighters, paramedics, police officers, and other first responders who ran toward unimaginable danger because someone needed help.
They answered the call.
Twenty-five years later, we remember their courage. We remember their sacrifice. We remember the families who have spent a quarter of a century carrying an absence that can never truly be filled.
But we also remember something else.
We remember how America came together.
For a moment, the things that divided us seemed insignificant. We stood shoulder to shoulder. We checked on our neighbors. We embraced strangers. We raised the American flag. We mourned together, prayed together, and stood together.
We were not defined by our differences.
We were defined by our humanity.
That spirit of unity is part of the legacy of September 11.
As firefighters, paramedics, and dispatchers, we understand that when the call comes, we donāt ask who needs helpāwe simply answer. We serve everyone. We stand together. And we carry the responsibility of remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, we pause to honor the fallen, support the families who continue to remember, and pay tribute to every first responder who showed extraordinary courage that day and in the years that followed.
May we never forget their names.
May we never forget their sacrifice.
And may we never forget what we learned when America stood together as one.
25 years later, we remember.
We honor.
We stand together.
We will never forget.
