If you moved your home into a trust, the deed changed. Your insurance policy probably didn't.
When the trust owns the house but isn't listed on the homeowners policy, you can end up with a gap between who owns the property and who's covered — and that gap tends to show up at the worst possible time, when you're filing a claim.
The fix is usually simple: call your insurance agent and ask to have your trust added to the policy as an additional insured or additional interest. It's typically one form, and it takes a few minutes.
If you've already set up a trust and haven't made this call, put it on your list for this week.
