25 years in the making.

We finally have broken ground on the NEW Alief Community Center in partnership w/ Houston Parks and Recreation Department, Houston Health Department, and Houston Public Library.

HPD has partnered with the Houston Public Library and Houston City Council to introduce Little Free Libraries (LFL) to several of our patrol stations. Little Free Libraries is a community book exchange program that gives children another way to access books. Having Little Free libraries at our patrol divisions creates an opportunity for us to further our mission of #RelationalPolicing by engaging with the community and, at the same time, promotes literacy.

The Little Free Library will be available at the following locations:

Clear Lake Patrol Division 2855 Bay Area Blvd
Eastside Patrol Division 7525 Sherman
Gulfton Storefront 6227 Southwest Freeway
Kingwood Patrol Division 3915 Rustic Woods
Midwest Patrol Division 7277 Regency Square
North Patrol Division 9455 W. Montgomery
Northeast Patrol Division 8301 Ley Rd
Northwest Patrol Division 6000 Teague
Ranchester Storefront 9160 Bellaire Suite F
South Central Patrol Division 2202 St. Emanuel
South Gessner Patrol Division 8605 Westplace Dr
Southwest Patrol Division 13097 Nitida St
Westside Patrol Division 3203 S. Dairy Ashford

Each library will be located in the public areas of police stations where community members come in for reports, resources, and inquiries. Books can be donated by local community members and officers. Community members are welcome to “Take a Book” and/or “Leave a Book,” for free.

Join us at one of the above locations for the Little Free Library!

International Management District

The Texas Legislature created the Houston International Management District (IMD) in 2007 with the goal of transforming part of the Alief neighborhood into a destination that supports and develops both its business and residential communities.

The IMD is home to almost 99,000 people in a district that is only 12 square miles, making it one of most densely populated areas in Houston. Not only is IMD unique for its density, but it is also one of the most culturally diverse areas in the city. There are a variety of strong cultural identities all within the district that have unique representation through local businesses and places of worship.

Because of the growing population in this district and need for connectivity, IMD is conducting a livable centers study to determine how the area can be transformed into a community where people can live, work and play with less reliance on their car for transportation. The vision for transforming IMD is to increase walkability and connectivity in a way that embraces local culture to make this area a destination within Houston.
