On July 31, Texas made possession of common THC products a potential felony.

This new state policy is killing small businesses and will disproportionately affect Black and Brown Texans — who are already at greater risk of criminalization and overpolicing.

Imprisoning people over ma*****na is a policy failure and an attack on our personal freedom.

The war on drugs is bu****it. 📢

OUR VOICE IS OUR POWER: The people of Tarrant County — which includes Fort Worth — forced the commissioners court to table their proposal that would have closed more than 100 polling places during the November elections.

Tarrant County is one of the fastest growing parts of Texas. One analysis showed that the largest number of voting sites that would be shut down under this proposal are in Black and Brown communities.

The fight isn't over. Together, it is possible to protect the right to vote.

As students head back to school, Texas families are busy figuring out how we can keep them safe in the classroom — especially immigrant students and their families.

We’ve updated our Students’ Rights Hub with resources designed to educate students, teachers, parents, and community members about what to do if ICE shows up near or on school grounds.

Visit aclutx.org/students for these and other students’ rights materials.

Public universities exist to serve students — not politicians. Every Texan deserves access to a high-quality education where ideas can be explored freely and academic freedom is protected.

Together with ACLU and Yetter Coleman we're suing on behalf of American Association of University Professors and professors over Texas A&M's wrongful censorship policy.

Inspired by banned book communities nationwide, In the Margins gathers to read boldly, think critically, and create space for ideas that deserve to be read, not restricted.

Join us virtually on Saturday, August 15 for: “Why Fascists Fear Teachers: Public Education and the Future of Democracy” by Randi Weingarten.

At a time when public officials are deciding what Texans can and cannot learn, choosing to read is a powerful act.

Black children deserve to grow up. Black children deserve care. Black children deserve to be given a chance to survive a moment of crisis.

Real safety for our community means investing in children, families, and mental health crisis response — not further expanding policing at the expense of programs that help prevent tragedies.

While in detention, Elton Purvis was frequently denied access to lifesaving medication and the food he needed to take it with.

Mr. Purvis — and the countless others like him who have faced harm at the hands of federal immigration agents — deserve justice. We are joining a nationwide effort by the ACLU and affiliates to demand they receive it.

🗣️ No one is above the law.

An Austin elementary school teacher went to what he believed would be a routine immigration check-in. Instead, he spent the rest of the school year fighting deportation while in ICE detention.

ICE is ripping Texans away from their communities.

Freed after 297 days in ICE detention, Austin teacher Roberto López Falcón hopes to return to the classroom he never meant to leave.
