The University of North Texas has removed its LGBTQIA+ archive webpage following pressure from a Texas lawmaker to censor the materials.

The archive is a renowned LGBTQIA+ resource and has been for more than a decade.

Texas history belongs to all of us. Public universities should preserve our history — not erase it or try to hide it.

State Rep. Brian Harrison said he wanted the library's archive, one of the largest collections of LGBTQ history in North Texas, to be "gone."

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo built a life here over the course of 35 years. He was a husband, a father. On July 7, he was killed by ICE.

This tragedy demands real accountability, which starts with a full and independent investigation of his killing — and the deaths of so many others at the hands of ICE.

Just this week, another Texas man was shot by ICE — another husband and father who had built a life here for himself and his family. Our elected leaders must act now to get these reckless, violent agents out of our streets.

Two years ago, we celebrated the reversal of Crystal Mason’s conviction.

The state requested a review of the case in an attempt to further criminalize her. Ms. Mason faced prison time for submitting a provisional ballot in 2016 that was NEVER counted as a vote.

Now, the courts have rejected the state’s request for review and Crystal Mason remains free.

The harms she has experienced due to her conviction cannot be reversed, but today’s decision demonstrates that nobody should face conviction or prison time for at worst an unintentional mistake.
