Business Coalitions to Speak Out Against Voting Restrictions in Texas

Businesses are stepping up their opposition to legislation that would make voting more difficult for Texans.

We need all hands on deck to #DefendTexasVoters.

Companies including Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft and Unilever are set to call for expanded voting access in the state after weeks of silence from national businesses on Republicans’ voting bills there.

POLL: Texans oppose extreme six-week abortion ban

Recent polling shows Texans overwhelmingly oppose new abortion restrictions and extreme legislation like House Bill 1515/Senate Bill 8, the six-week ban on abortion.

The Legislature should listen to Texans and #StopHB1515. #TXDeservesBetter

A majority of Texans are against new abortion restrictions, overwhelmingly oppose provisions in HB 1515/SB 8.

In push for new Texas voting restrictions, House panel sets up GOP faceoff over which chamber's legislation will advance

Last night, the House Elections Committee voted to advance SB 7, moving the bill one step closer to becoming law with no notice or public comment.

Our voting rights are under attack and lawmakers are not playing fair.

The House elections committee gutted the Senate’s priority voting bill and replaced it with language from the House’s preferred legislation, signaling a divide over which new restrictions will make it to the governor’s desk.

ACLU Calls on Biden Administration to Shut Down ICE Detention Facilities, Including 6 in Texas

Closing ICE detention sites should be a no-brainer.

The Biden administration must shrink the infrastructure that’s been used to abuse and traumatize immigrants for decades.

WASHINGTON — The ACLU sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas today calling for the closure of 39 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facilities, including six facilities in Texas.

- allow ANYONE to “enforce” restrictions, meaning a rapist could sue their victim’s doctor

Republicans Target Voter Access in Texas Cities, but Not Rural Areas

“Being able to drive-through vote was a savior for me."

At eight months pregnant in the middle of a global pandemic, Brittany Hyman probably wouldn’t have risked waiting in a long line to vote.

Yet Texas lawmakers are working overtime to remove and suppress the voting options that made her participation possible.

In Houston, election officials found creative ways to help a struggling and diverse work force vote in a pandemic. Record turnout resulted. Now the G.O.P. is targeting those very measures.

HB 1515 would ban abortions in Texas after six weeks and allow ANYONE to sue a person who helped someone obtain abortion care.

It is outrageous, draconian, and out of touch with the real needs of Texans. Help #StopHB1515 by finding your state House representative and telling them you oppose this bill: bit.ly/FindTXRep.

As the voting-rights fight moves to Texas, defiant Republicans test the resolve of corporations that oppose restrictions

“Some companies have come out in support of voting rights and others have gotten more skittish,” said Sarah Labowitz, policy director at the ACLU of Texas. “The governor and lieutenant governor have been very clear about punishing corporations that speak out. The companies need safety in numbers and to speak out as a group.”

Legislators are promoting measures that would drastically curtail access to the polls and could disproportionately affect voters of color, critics say.

Derek Chauvin is guilty as charged but this fight is far from over.

True justice means creating a world where police do not have the opportunity to target Black people with violence. George Floyd and so many others should still be alive today.

Texas, we have work to do.

Derek Chauvin is guilty as charged but this fight is far from over.

True justice means creating a world where police do not have the opportunity to target Black people with violence. George Floyd and so many others should still be alive today.

Texas, we have work to do.

As we await the verdict in Derek Chauvin’s trial, we want to acknowledge that real justice would be George Floyd being able to return home safely to his daughter Gianna.

Real justice is preventing these deaths in the first place.

Overnight, an onslaught of bills designed to criminalize and ban abortion advanced out of committee to be debated on the Texas House floor.

Please remove the MANDATORY necessity for a phone number when signing a petition? I can't be the only person that is not willing to give their phone number... How many petitioners/voices will you be missing out on?
The Walls of Justice are closing in on corrupt cops! Three states have removed qualified immunity from police officers (cops can be individually SUED)! Other states are going to follow suit. One day, members of Civilians Review Boards are going to be riding along with police officers to make sure they don't harass, brutalize, and murder UN-armed civilians. The days of making up charges, tampering with evidence, falsifying police reports, pulling citizens out of their car for a stupid, minor traffic infraction (tail light out, or failure to use a turn signal (and then escalating), shooting a fleeing suspect to death instead of trying to wound them in the arm or leg), and demanding I.D. out of nosiness...those days are coming to an end real fast!!! A racist cop who murders a black man. like Derek Chauvin did, might come home one night...turn the light on in his living room and see a black militia sitting there. TIMES ARE A-CHANGING POLICE OFFICERS!!! NOTE: I only make LEGAL threats...never physical threats. I network with the ACLU, NAACP, Black Congressional Caucus, Black Lives Matter, etc. etc. [Read the words of the attached poster AND remember these words!] https://www.facebook.com/groups/122172277793029/permalink/4190253274318222/

Hi, this is a question for all. This is Dallas County Specific. Is ACLU of Texas working on a program that tracks and assures those in pre-trial and incarcerated with a misdemeanor charge, eligible to vote, are applying for their absentee ballot so they can vote in the May 1st election? The deadline for Dallas County to receive your request for a mail-in ballot for the May General Municipal Election is Tuesday, April 20, 2021 I've been researching and based on data from the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, the number of possible eligible voters is approximately 3,000 in Dallas County. Any thoughts on how we can work on this? I am a Precinct Chair and Volunteer Deputy Registrar and happy to help.
