Kinship caregivers prevent children from ending up in regular foster care. Texas leads all states in the number of kids placed in kinship care. Did you know though that most children in kinship care are there informally? Meaning these children were never placed in CPS custody. These families don’t receive the benefits, or legal services that are needed to make these homes stable for children. Community Legal is recruiting volunteer attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and community members for our upcoming Montgomery County Wills and Estates Legal Clinic. Whether you can provide legal assistance, help with hospitality and organization, or simply offer a warm conversation or prayer while clients wait, there is a meaningful place for you on our team.

Location: North Montgomery County Community Center, 600 Gerald Street, Willis, TX 77378 (near I-45)

Volunteer attorneys will provide one-on-one assistance to Community Legal clients who might not otherwise have access to these critical services. Depending on the client’s needs, volunteers may consult with clients; prepare basic estate-planning documents from our form bank, including wills, durable powers of attorney, medical powers of attorney, and transfer-on-death deeds; and explain the documents.

You will be supported by intake staff, notaries, and witnesses, so you can focus on serving clients with skill and care. Paralegals and legal assistants are also needed, and hospitality volunteers are welcome to bring snacks and refreshments, assist with organization, or spend time visiting with and encouraging clients.

There is plenty of parking, and food and drinks will be provided.
