Do you know an organization that serves people who might need legal help? We'd love to connect.

Community Legal partners with churches, nonprofits, and community organizations across our region to help more neighbors access free civil legal assistance with dignity and care.

Here's the reality: many of the people who need legal help most are already being served by someone else. A food pantry. A domestic violence shelter. A school. A church. A social services program. They're already in relationship with your organization — they just don't know that free legal help is available to them too.

That's where a partnership with Community Legal makes a real difference.

Here's what partnership looks like:

⛪ Churches & Faith Communities — Host a legal clinic or informational session, connect congregants to legal help, or support outreach within your community.

🤝 Nonprofits & Community Organizations — Refer neighbors to Community Legal, share our resources, or collaborate on joint outreach and community education efforts.

Partnerships are flexible and designed to meet real community needs. We're not here to duplicate what you're already doing — we're here to fill a gap that's often invisible until someone desperately needs it.

Our partnerships are built on mutual respect, clear communication, and a shared commitment to serving those in need. And our services are always free to the people we serve.

If your organization regularly serves individuals and families who might benefit from civil legal assistance, we'd love to start a conversation.

We have some exciting news to share . . . and a story behind it worth telling.

In 2018, we started this legal mission with a simple conviction: that caring for the poor, the widow, the orphan, and the immigrant was also a call for attorneys to put their skills to work for neighbors who needed access to justice.

What began as Community Gospel Justice Center became Community Christian Legal Aid. And over the years, it grew from a simple clinic with free consultations and prayer into a full legal organization - with dedicated volunteers, paid staff, and attorneys who walk alongside our neighbors through some of the hardest seasons of their lives . . . especially the children. They are the ones who benefit most when a caregiver finally has stable ground to stand on.

Two years ago, we asked our neighbors across the state what the name "Community Christian Legal Aid" meant to them. The results were clear: most people believed we only served Christians.

We sat with that for a long time - in prayer and in conversation.

Because the truth is, we have always served everyone who walks through our door. We offer prayer, hope, and legal help to anyone who needs it. And we never want a child to stay in an unsafe home because a caregiver didn't know this was for them too.

So we are starting a new chapter.

We are now Community Legal.

Same mission. Same faith roots. Same Isaiah 58 conviction that justice and community are inseparable. Just a new name . . . one that makes clear: every neighbor is welcome here.

Community, for community.

Volunteers are the backbone of Community Legal - and we mean that!

Every free legal clinic we host. Every fundraiser we organize. Every community event where someone walks up and says, "I didn't know help like this existed" . . . none of it happens without our volunteers.

Our volunteers show up in so many ways:

⚖️ Attorney volunteers who donate their Saturday mornings to sit across from a neighbor in need and say, "Let's figure this out together."

📋 Legal Aid Clinic and Event volunteers who set up chairs, greet guests, prayer with clients, stuff envelopes, and make sure every detail is handled so our team can focus on the people we serve.

💛 Fundraiser supporters who help us raise the resources that keep our doors open and our clinics running — because free legal help isn't free to provide.

🤝 Community connectors who spread the word, share our posts, and make sure the grandmother down the street or the single mom in their neighborhood knows that help is available.

Without volunteers, we simply could not reach our community the way we do. They are not just helpers . . . they are partners in justice.

If you've ever volunteered with us: thank you. You are the reason we can do what we do.

And if you've been thinking about getting involved - - we'd so love to have you. Whether you're a licensed attorney, a law student, or simply someone who wants to give back, there's a place for you at Community Legal.

Your community is waiting.

This summer, our Founder and Director, Deb Hubbs, attended the State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting - a gathering of legal professionals from across the state - and joined a prayer breakfast that left a lasting impression.

The message that morning centered on Isaiah 58, and it wasn't what you might expect. The text doesn't call people to pray harder or do more religious observance. It calls them to show up . . . for the grandmother raising her grandchildren alone, for the mother trying to keep her family together, for the child nobody is asking about.

The ancient words are surprisingly direct: loose the chains of injustice. Share what you have. Provide for those who are wandering. And when you do - then your light will break forth.

What struck us most was this: the call isn't to individuals acting alone. It's to a community . . . a people who decide together to see the vulnerable in their midst and show up for them. Not out of obligation. Out of belonging.

At Community Legal, that's exactly what we try to do. Every free legal clinic. Every volunteer attorney who gives their Saturday morning. Every client who walks through our doors not knowing what comes next and leaves with a plan.

A grandmother raising her grandchildren may need help with guardianship documents. A mother trying to keep her family together may need a protective order. A child nobody is asking about may need someone to speak for them in court.

These are our neighbors. They are part of our community. And they are waiting.

If you're a legal professional looking for a meaningful way to serve -- or if you or someone you know needs free legal help -- we'd love to connect.

💚 A Big Thank You to Our Community!

🤝 Have You Heard of a Legal Aid Clinic? Here's a Little of What Ours Looks Like.

At Community Legal, we hold regular free legal aid clinics right here in Montgomery and Harris Counties - and we want you to know exactly what to expect when you walk through our doors.

From the moment you arrive, you are greeted by our Community Legal staff and volunteers who are here to welcome you, get you signed in, and make sure you feel at ease. Prayer partners are on hand to offer hope and prayer while you wait. Refreshments and snacks are served - because we want this to feel like a community, not a courthouse. 🙏

Before the clinic, our team works with you over the phone to confirm income eligibility and get a brief summary of your legal situation. That way, our attorneys and legal volunteers are already prepared to serve you well when you arrive.

At the clinic, our lawyers take the time to truly listen. They hear your story, explain the law in plain language, advise you on your options and next steps - and in some cases, a lawyer may take your case for ongoing representation.

We handle legal issues including:
⚖️ Consumer Protection & Debt Defense
📝 Wills, Power of Attorney & Guardianship
👨‍👩‍👧 Family Law

Are you a lawyer, legal professional, or community volunteer? Our clinics run on the generosity of people who want to give their time and skills to serve their neighbors. We would love to have you join us. 💛

Eight years. What a journey it has been.

This week, we marked eight years since CCLA first opened its doors — and I have been sitting with so much gratitude in my heart.

Eight years ago, we started with a simple mission: to make sure that a lack of resources would never stand between someone and access to justice — in Jesus's name. We had no staff. We had very little in the way of resources. What we did have was the generosity of two local churches who believed in this work from the very beginning: WoodsEdge Community Church and The Woodlands Methodist Church. That foundation of faith and community partnership is what made everything else possible.

Today, we have grown. We have grown in staff. We have grown in the depth and professionalism of our work — carrying ourselves with the capability of a true law firm while staying rooted in the faith and service that brought us here. We have walked alongside individuals and families facing legal challenges they could not face alone, offering counsel, advocacy, and hope grounded in something greater than ourselves.

Every case we have taken on, every person we have helped — it all reflects the generosity and belief that so many of you have shown in this mission. You are the reason we are still here. You are the reason we are still growing.

Still rooted in Community.

As I look back on eight years, I am filled with gratitude. And as I look ahead, I am more committed than ever to expanding the reach of this work — because while we have served many, there is still work to be done.

If you or someone you know needs free civil legal assistance, please reach out. And if you feel called to support this mission — whether through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word — we would be so honored to have you alongside us.

Thank you for being part of this journey. From the bottom of my heart — thank you.

With appreciation,
Deb Hubbs
