Our OPHS & Indy Peace staff attended the NOVPN 5th Annual Convening, connecting with violence-prevention leaders nationwide and bringing home new ideas to strengthen our work in Indianapolis.

We were especially proud to support Indianapolis leader Kia Wright, Executive Director of Voices Corp., as she presented during the fourth plenary session, “Effective Strategies to Reduce Youth Violence.” Kia oversees the Youth Violence Reduction Initiative led by the National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform.

She was joined by Darcell Harrison of NICJR, Brittany Dowdy of THRIVE Academy, and Rod Izzard of the Baltimore County Department of Juvenile Services. Their discussion highlighted the importance of trusted relationships, family engagement, and coordinated support in helping young people build safer futures.

The Assessment and Intervention Center (AIC) provides a range of supports and services, from assessments to withdrawal management to provider referrals and more.

Have you heard about Fresh Bucks?

Fresh Bucks is a nutrition incentive program that provides the opportunity for individuals and families who utilize the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to purchase more fruits and vegetables from local farmers.

You can use it at participating farmers' markets in Marion County, at Safeway Food Stores, and at local shops like Elephant Gardens, located at 34th and Sherman!

OPHS' Division of Community Nutrition & Food Policy (DCNFP) spent the week connecting with Indianapolis residents, holding conversations about food insecurity to getting food directly to the families that need to most.

To our friends at Wayne Township Fire Station, IPL Haughville Branch, Pentecostal Apostolic Church, and George Washington High School – thank you for hosting us! And we're not done yet - join us for upcoming Community Conversations on September 19th and September 28th, and accompanying food distributions on Sept. 24th and Sept. 25th.

🚨We need your help!!!🚨
We are feeling the impacts of climate change here on the farm. More frequent, longer-lasting periods of extreme weather have stressed our crops, created unsafe conditions for our farm workers, and created the perfect conditions for aggressive, invasive plant species to explode across the farm.
If you are available and willing, we could definitely use some help this Monday and Tuesday beating back some of these awful plants!
We need help tackling a number of invasive plants, but Japanese Hops is our biggest threat right now. Please come prepared with gloves, appropriate footwear, water bottles, and tough clothes. Meet us at the farm gates by the Ujamaa entrance. Thank you!!!
