The next round of applications for Tactical Urbanism and Art in the Right-of-Way is open now through Friday, Sept. 25. These programs are part of Indy DPW's Community Powered Infrastructure initiative.

Tactical Urbanism allows communities to try out low-cost, temporary infrastructure projects that make it safer and easier for people to get around.

Art in the Right-of-Way allows communities to celebrate their unique identities by bringing artwork to public streets and sidewalks within their neighborhood. One such project is the mural in our reel, created by Robert Bentley.

Today, Mayor Joe Hogsett, Indy DPW Director Todd Wilson, and Councilor Crista Lee Wells joined community members to announce the eight recipients for the 2026 Indianapolis Neighborhood Infrastructure Partnership (INIP).

INIP is one of the City’s Community Powered Infrastructure programs, which offers community-based organizations (CBOs) the opportunity to bring new infrastructure changes to an Indy neighborhood at a 50/50 cost share between the City and the CBO.

Tuesday’s announcement was held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, a 2026 INIP recipient, just a few blocks away from the future project site on Georgetown Road.

As strip-patching season winds down, we’d like to thank all three of our contractors for their hard work this summer. Work was completed in all 25 council districts. Workers will wrap up a few more locations in the coming days before paint crews add pavement markings for the areas that have been strip-patched.
