Earlier today, an officer in IMPDโ€™s Homeless Outreach Unit was canvasing the area, making sure our unhoused neighbors have resources during our rising temperatures.

Just a reminder, there are several cooling centers around Indy for anyone needing relief from the heat.

IMPD officers will continue to be present during this stretch of dangerous heat, checking on individuals and reminding our neighbors they are not alone.

On August 24, 2026, Indiana Crime Guns Task Force (ICGTF) detectives were attempting to locate a known 22-year-old male on an outstanding buccal warrant. Detectives observed the male armed with a firearm, equipped with a drum magazine, before he entered an apartment. A search warrant for the residence was requested and later granted, and detectives took him into custody without incident.

During the search of the apartment, investigators located two fi****ms and a drum magazine inside the apartment. The 22-year-old male, who was prohibited from possessing fi****ms, was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm.

The Marion County Prosecutorโ€™s Office was notified and will make the final charging decision. The male, like any person arrested, is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

๐—™๐—”๐—–๐—ง: For most calls, officers do not drive with their lights and sirens activated.

Officers respond based on the priority of the call. While emergencies involving an immediate threat to life or safety may require lights and sirens, many calls do not. Responding without emergency equipment helps reduce the risk of traffic crashes, minimizes unnecessary disruptions, and still allows officers to arrive safely and effectively.

On August 26, 2026, IMPD Child Abuse detectives arrested an adult female, identified as the mother, on the preliminary charge of neglect of a dependent.

An arrest is merely an accusation, and the female is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The Marion County Prosecutorโ€™s Office (MCPO) will review the case and ultimately make the final charging decisions.

On Monday, August 24, 2026, at approximately 6:49 p.m., IMPD Southeast District officers were dispatched to the 5400 block of E Thompson Road to check the welfare of a child. An infant was found behind a shopping center and is believed to have been intentionally left at the location.

The infant appeared to be uninjured and was transported to an area hospital for a check out.

We are asking anyone with information about the mother, the infant, or what occurred to please come forward. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

This situation is a difficult reminder of the challenges many mothers and families face. IMPD encourages anyone in need to reach out for help and use available community resources.

Detectives with the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force (ICGTF) arrested an adult male for unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon following a traffic stop last week.

On August 20, 2026, ICGTF investigators conducted a traffic stop near E 38th Street and N German Church Road. During the stop, detectives gained probable cause to search the vehicle. Inside a backpack belonging to a male in the vehicle, investigators located a firearm. Detectives confirmed that the male had a prior felony conviction that qualifies him as a serious violent felon. Therefore, he is prohibited from possessing fi****ms.

The male was arrested on the preliminarily charged unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

An arrest and a charge are accusations, and the suspect is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The Marion County Prosecutorโ€™s Office will ultimately make the final charging decision.
