WELCOME BACK!!!!!!

Thursday was a BIG DAY for the School District of Janesville as it welcomed back teachers and staff for the 2026-27 school year!

Staff from 19 schools gathered in the gymnasium at Craig High School to meet up with colleagues they haven't seen all summer, and to be treated to performances by the Joseph A. Craig High School and Parker High School - Janesville, WI bands, poms and cheers teams, and students from Parker Arts Academy's 2026 productions of "& Juliet" and "Newsies."

After the show, SDJ Superintendent Mark Holzman addressed the crowd to share district progress on its three critical points of focus: higher scores in math and reading and improved attendance numbers. Mr. Holzman was excited to announce each area continued has continued to head in the right direction -- marking trememdous growth and improvement!

From there, Mr. Holzman announced this year's "Employee of the Year" winners. These people will be honored as part of the special dinner event in October:
-- Teachers of the Year: Amy Cleasby, Roosevelt Elementary School; Stephanie Davis, ARISE Virtual Academy; Colleen Feld, Monroe Elementary School; Jenny Sikora, Parker High School.
-- Emerging Teachers of the Year: Erin Bier, Rock River Charter School; Anna Fish, Marshall Middle School; Alexis Hoium, Wilson Elementary, School District of Janesville.
-- Staff of the Year: Kelly Elliot, Marshall Middle School; Tanya Morgan, Monroe Elementary School.
-- Administrators of the Year: Amanda Spranger, Principal, Edison Middle School; Clayton Kreger, Athletic Director, Parker High School.

In addition to handing out awards, Mr. Holzman was able to have winners help raffle off gift cards donated by Blain's Farm & Fleet, Scarlett’s Charm , The Janesville Athletic Club, Mercyhealth Rock County, Beloit Sky Carp, Parker Arts Academy and Forward Janesville Inc. Educators Credit Union also provided every staff member with a gift bag!

And, as always, Mr. Holzman handed out five certificates for extra personal days to five district employees, promising to do their jobs for one day so they can enjoy their time off that day!

Congratulations to all of our honorees, and to our raffle winners! And WELCOME BACK to our entire staff. We can't wait to get things rolling again this year!

The value the School District of Janesville places on the relationship between itself and the residents of our community cannot be overstated.

In an effort to share some insight into efforts the district is making to support its students and staff, a series of short videos featuring SDJ Superintendent Mark Holzman will be posted over the coming weeks on SDJ social media channels. Our thanks to the folks at Forward Janesville Inc who funded these videos to provide valuable information to our community at large.

In this video, Superintendent Holzman talks about what sets SDJ teachers and school leaders apart from other districts and how they strive to build positive relationships with students while continuing to challenge them academically.

School might not yet be in session, but that doesn't mean there isn't learning going on here at the School District of Janesville!

On Wednesday, new teachers gathered at several schools to meet with mentors and get the lay of the land. At the same time, incoming sixth-graders were getting together for "Take Flight," a program that gives them a breakdown of what middle school will be like compared to elementary school.

In these images, staff from Edison Middle School and Roosevelt Elementary School prepare for the upcoming school year while "Take Flight" participants at Edison get their first looks at their new school.

It's all coming together. We can't wait to see it all in action when school starts MONDAY, AUG. 24!

🎵 Getting to know you, getting to know all about you ... 🎵

The School District of Janesville took another step toward the start of the 2026-27 school year Monday morning, welcoming a fresh class of new teachers during orientation at Parker High School - Janesville, WI!

Thanks in part to the district's outstanding retention rates for both non-certified (89.2%) and certified staff (94.3%), Superintendent Mark Holzman noted this year's crop of new teachers is perhaps the smallest it has seen over the past seven years.

In addition to the district's leadership team, the newly-minted educators had opportunities to meet their principals and other building leaders, to interact with other new teachers throughtout the district, and to pick up their district laptops and get a primer on how to log in and out.

The School District of Janesville offers a hearty WELCOME to all of our new teachers! We have no doubt you will all be phenomenal additions to our SDJ family.
