Juneau Public Libraries The Juneau Public Libraries are the open door to exploration and lifelong learning. Library staff offices are located at the downtown branch.

The Juneau Public Libraries are a Department of the City and Borough of Juneau (www.juneau.org). We have three branches: the downtown Juneau Public Library (located atop the parking garage on the waterfront), the Mendenhall Valley Public Library (located at 3025 Dimond Park Loop) and the Douglas Public Library (located in the Douglas Community Building, a shared facility with the Fire Department). The Juneau Public Libraries are part of the Joint Library consortium, including the three Juneau Public Libraries, the Anchorage Public Libraries, all University of Alaska libraries, the Alaska State Library, the Sealaska Heritage Institute, and more. A card obtained at any one of these facilities will allow you to check out or return materials at all facilities. (The Sealaska Heritage Institute is a non-circulating research library.) πŸ₯’πŸ This week we kicked off the 2026 Community Class series with our first class, Fermentation is Culture! We explored the scientific process, the various uses for fermentation and put our new knowledge into practice. All 15 participants went home with at least one jar of fermenting veggies!

With our new series, Page to Screen, we invite you to read the book, watch the movie and discuss with fellow community members after the film. Reading the book is not a requirement, you are still welcome to join for the free movie portion!

Our first title in this series is π˜™π˜¦π˜’π˜₯π˜ͺ𝘯𝘨 π˜“π˜°π˜­π˜ͺ𝘡𝘒 π˜ͺ𝘯 π˜›π˜¦π˜©π˜³π˜’π˜―; a 2003 memoir by Azar Nafisi detailing her life teaching English literature in post-revolutionary Iran during the 1980s and 1990s. Compare your experience with the Western classics mentioned in the book and movie with the experiences presented by the young women in Tehran.
