As August comes to close, I am reflecting on all of the truly precious moments I have experienced throughout this amazing summer. 💜
I held the hands & massaged the exhausted bodies of first timers who wholeheartedly labored their babies into the world (in some instances for days).
New families invited me to join their birth team and welcomed me into their homes and stories as we began our journey together.
My heart broke alongside some dear families as they learned that their pregnancies were not to be and offered support as they navigated this deep loss.
I walked beside two rockstar moms who arrived home with their adorable preemie helping them settle in and find their groove, and celebrated with them when they learned that there is another sweet one on the way.
A special returning family pushed her little guy into the world En Caul, which is absolutely magical to witness!
There was not a dry eye in the rooms as my courageous VBAC mamas and their teeny humans said their first hellos.
I was in awe of two of my first timers who labored so beautifully at home and arrived fully dilated at the hospital and met their babies a few minutes later.
How cool that a fabulous MFM provider who was 38 weeks pregnant herself showed up to be a part of my client’s beautiful double rainbow twin birth. 🌈🌈
I witnessed the smoothest ever EVC that allowed this gorgeous mama to not only continue her pregnancy for a few weeks, but to have the unmedicated third birth she hoped to achieve. ✨
Our summer session of Southern RI Parents Circle has brought together such an amazing group of humans who are connecting, sharing and holding space for one another. I am so proud of this Circle community that Hailey and I have created and it fills my heart to have the privilege to do this work.
I am currently waiting for one of my beloved doula sister’s babes to choose their BIRTHday and feel so honored to have been invited to be by her side when the time comes.
Thank you for all these gifts, Summer ’26! I am so blessed to spend my days doing something that I love so deeply! 🫶🏽

In the wake of the intense media coverage surrounding the Lindsay Clancy trial, many people may be left with questions, fear, or uncertainty about perinatal mental health.

Join us for a free, open discussion about perinatal mental health, including postpartum OCD, anxiety, depression, and psychosis. Together, we’ll separate fact from sensationalized narratives, explore how these conditions actually present, and create space for honest conversation without judgment or stigma.

🙃 What is an ECV (External Cephalic Version)? 🙃
An ECV is a procedure in which your provider attempts to rotate your baby from a breech position to a head-down position.

Will my baby turn by themselves?
Most babies will turn and settle into a head-down (cephalic) position, but it is very common for babies to be in a breech position earlier in pregnancy.
After 36 weeks approximately 3 out of 100 babies are breech.

When can I have an ECV?
ECV is usually offered after 37 weeks of pregnancy.

Is ECV suitable for all breech babies?
If you have a healthy pregnancy, it's likely that you can attempt an ECV.
ECV may not be suitable for you if:
you have placenta previa
you have had recent va**nal bleeding
your water has broken
you have high blood pressure or pre-eclampsia
you have an irregular shaped uterus

ECV may also not be suitable if your baby:
is unwell or not growing well
has a low amount of amniotic fluid
has an abnormally high or low heart rate

What happens during an ECV?
An ECV can take up to 3 hours from start to finish.
You and your baby will need to be monitored before and after.

Before an ECV:
You will have an ultrasound to confirm baby is still breech.
You will be connected to a fetal monitor to monitor baby's heart rate for 20 - 40 mins.
You may be given medicine to relax your uterus and offered pain meds.
Your pulse, blood pressure and breathing rate will be monitored.

During an ECV
Your OB will try to rotate your baby by pressing their hands firmly on your abdomen. One hand will be over your baby's bum and the other hand will be behind your baby's head. This is oftentimes performed with two providers.
They will press in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction to encourage your baby to roll.
You may find this uncomfortable. The pressure on your abdomen lasts several mins and can cause your uterus to cramp.
If your baby doesn't roll on the first try, the OB can try up to 3 or 4 times.

After an ECV
After your procedure, even if it was unsuccessful:
Baby's heart rate, your blood pressure and heart rate will be monitored.
You will have another ultrasound to recheck baby's position.

After an ECV, you should contact your doctor or midwife if:
You have pain in your abdomen.
You notice bleeding or fluid leaking from your va**na.
Decreased fetal movement.

What are the risks of ECV?
ECV is a safe procedure, but there is a small risk of complications.
Occasionally, ECV can cause:
Placental abruption
Fetal distress
Premature rupture of membranes
Vaginal bleeding

Will ECV make my baby turn?
ECV is successful about 58% the time.
If your baby does turn, there is a small chance they will turn back to the breech position. However, most babies remain head-down.
