CISV Smoky Mountain

CISV Smoky Mountain CISV educates and inspires action for a more just and peaceful world through intercultural programming CISV’S FOUR PRINCIPLES ARE:
1.

We appreciate the similarities between people and value their differences
2. We support social justice and equality of opportunity for all
3. We encourage the resolution of conflict through peaceful means
4. We support the creation of sustainable solutions to problems relating to our impact upon each other and the natural environment

We believe that through the choices we make, debates we have and actions we take within our families and communities, we can all take responsibility for making our world a better place to live in.

Every year CISV Smoky Mountain gathers to fold 1,000 cranes, a tradition called Senbazuru in Japan. Each crane carries a wish for peace, inspired by the story of Sadako Sasaki, who began folding cranes while battling leukemia after the bombing of Hiroshima.

Join us anytime between 10-5 on September 19th at Union Avenue Books as we help OREPA fold peace cranes.

Peace isn’t a feeling. It’s a skill. 🌍
Listening to someone you disagree with. Working with people who see the world differently. Finding common ground when it would be easier to walk away.
For 75 years, CISV has treated these as skills you can learn, because they are.

What actually happens at a CISV programme? 🤔
It looks like games, songs and camp life. But underneath, something serious is going on: children from around the world learning to communicate across language, navigate difference, and see conflict as something you can work through together.
We call it peace education. They just call it the best summer of their lives.
