We had such an amazing turn out at this years Ice Cream Social. We can’t thank our community enough for coming and supporting the Lorane Fire Department. We hope you all enjoyed it just as much as we did.

3 days until our Annual Ice Cream Social. You can plan to enjoy delicious pie and ice cream, socializing with friends and neighbors, and fun kids activities.

We will also have a 50/50 raffle where 50% of the proceeds go to 1 lucky winner, along with a silent auction for a trailer load of dry split firewood, and 2 separate magnum sized bottles of wine generously donated by King Estate Winery.

All proceed from the event go directly to our Lorane Volunteer Firefighter Association. Volunteers use the funds for various new tools and equipment.

We can't wait to see you all there for.

Having to rescue someone down a steep bank is a rare call. One of the techniques we can use to help pull a patient up a hill is called a Z Rig. Using a rope, 2 pulleys and 2 prusik’s, we can safely and quickly extricate a patient up a step incline. Practicing these types of skills each year during drill nights, helps keep our volunteers ready to help in any situation.

During tonight’s drill we learned how to draft out of a port-a-tank with our brush truck. With only a 300 gallon tank on our brush truck, we rely on additional water from one of our 2 water tenders. Once the tender is empty, it has to travel back to one of our water tanks or a dry hydrant drafting site to refill. The turn around time from when they leave the incident, fill the tender, and return to the incident could be as long as an hour depending on the location of the fire.
By setting up a port-a-tank we can dump all 3000 gallons in the tank and immediately return to refill. Leaving the brush truck to use the water in the tank. This type of set up can help prevent us from running out of water on scene, which is always a real possibility in our district.
