Twenty-five years later, many of us who are old enough can remember vividly where we were and what we were doing on September 11, 2001. I remember watching the tragedy unfold on TV — a day that would reshape our country and our world.

Three years later, I served as campaign manager for Kevin McAdams, a New York City firefighter who ran in the Democratic primary for Congress. Kevin spent the year after 9/11 working at Ground Zero, helping dig through the rubble at the World Trade Center. He told me about the difficulty of that work, including recovering the remains of victims and fellow firefighters. Like so many who worked at Ground Zero, he developed the signature cough caused by breathing the toxic air.

Today, 25 years later, we honor all those who were lost on 9/11, their loved ones who endured that loss and the first responders, volunteers, and servicemembers who sacrificed so much to help others.

Constituents across the 48th Assembly District have contacted my office to share concerns about the proposed BECI 765-kilovolt transmission line. One of these contacts came from a local husband/wife team — the Woldts — that own and run their own small dairy farm here in the Town of Marshall. The Woldts offered to show me their farm and I’m so glad I went.

At their farm, I saw a proposed placement for the line and heard their concerns about its potential impact on their farming operations including drainage, land use and possible impacts on their cows. I can understand how a farmer, especially a small one with narrow margins, could be worried about anything that might impact their business.

Hearing from folks like the Woldts helps me a great deal as a legislator. Seeing with my own eyes people’s circumstances informs me in a way that briefings and meetings at the Capitol cannot. Please feel free to continue to reach out to my office and we will respond with what we know, and continue to learn, about the proposed BECI line.

Today we honor the workers that keep Wisconsin’s economy running and the labor advocates who have tirelessly fought for fair pay, safe conditions, and respect for all workers. Happy Labor Day!

It’s always a great day when you get to enjoy some Wisconsin-made cheese! I was glad to join local and state leaders, including Senator Tammy Baldwin, for the unveiling of Crave Brothers’ new burrata cheese! Congratulations to the Crave family on this next chapter in their generations-long story sustainably producing cheese right here in the Town of Portland.

My colleagues and I visited the Renk Seed Company here in Sun Prairie for the Dane County Farm Bureau's Legislative and Learning Lunch. Our visit highlighted the rich history of Wisconsin agriculture as well as the important role Wisconsin farmers play in our economy today.

Brett Renk took us on a tour of the farm's facilities where we learned about seed production and crop protection. It was amazing to learn that the Renk family farm was first established before Wisconsin was even a state! Thank you to the Farm Bureau for making this visit possible!

Sun Prairie Sweet Corn Festival was bumper-to-bumper, with people and corn! I had a chance to serve some hot corn (12 max per tote!) plus made sure the corn pieces were sent up the conveyor belt so they could be transported to feed animals (nothing wasted!).

Corn Fest is an annual event that brings in a ton of people from outside Sun Prairie (and the state). The funds generated by sales go to support local public service organizations including Sun Prairie Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #333, VFW #9362 and the Exchange Club of Sun Prairie.

Started the day off with Access To Independence’s Adaptive Gaming Expo! It was incredible to see some of the innovative technologies that make gaming more accessible to people of all ability levels.

I also got to meet Randy - AKA N0M4D, the world’s first quadriplegic gamer - and see a demo of the game he developed! Don’t hesitate to stop by if you get a chance - if you complete the demo, you’ll get a mention in the credits of his game!

Federal agents are not above the law, and we, as state leaders, must take steps to protect Wisconsinites from federal overreach.

This session, I authored AB 331 to give any person the ability to sue in state court for violations of their civil rights by government officials. In times like these, I am committed more than ever to protecting the civil rights of every Wisconsinite.

The company that makes the gloves, Compliant Technologies, says they're a nonlethal tool to make individuals compliant during arrests.
