Jeremy for Skagit County Auditor Campaign Kick Off!

Jeremy Harrison-Smith's campaign for Skagit County Auditor is kicking into gear. Join him and supporters on Thursday to get involved! Let's help elect Jeremy, to make sure we keep our elections accurate, secure, and accessible.

Date: Thursday, May 28th

Time: 5:30-7:30pm

Location: COA Mexican Eatery (1810 Riverside Dr., Mount Vernon)

RSVP: Please email: [email protected]

If you're unable to attend but still want to support Jeremy's campaign you can make a donation HERE!

Jeremy is running against Mark Hulst, former Republican PCO and former Chair of the Skagit County Republicans, to succeed Sandra Perkins who has announced that she is retiring at the end of her term and will not seek reelection. With Trump and other Republicans trying to question or possibly invalidate elections, it is far smarter to have a Democrat like Jeremy Harrison-Smith in charge of our local elections. More information about Jeremy, and his campaign, can be found at www.jeremyharrisonsmith.com

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Message from Representative Rick Larsen
In May, I filed to run for re-election to the United States House of Representatives.

It is an honor to represent Washington’s 2nd District in Congress. My family has called Northwest Washington home for over 100 years. My father was a union power line worker, and my mom managed the books at home while raising eight kids in Arlington. They embodied the values that unite us: working hard, caring for each other, and serving the community. My wife and I taught these same values to our two sons; we are thankful to say that both have launched their own careers.

My top priority is to lower healthcare, gas, groceries, housing, childcare, and energy costs. Hardworking families should be able to put food on the table, but now, too many are struggling to make ends meet.

Healthcare costs are too high. I believe healthcare is a right, and I will fight to expand access and lower healthcare costs. Housing prices must be brought down by increasing the supply of affordable homes and investing in local infrastructure so communities can build the housing they need.

The administration promised lower prices and less war. Instead, we have higher prices and more wars. From increasing prices through tariffs to waging foreign wars and targeting immigrant communities. I will work to rein in this out-of-control executive.

Creating local jobs is essential to lowering costs. I will continue to bring economic investments to Northwest Washington, create good-paying jobs, and expand access to affordable childcare so working families can succeed. I will continue to combat the opioid and fentanyl threat in our communities by supporting our local law enforcement and ensuring ICE agents follow the same rules as all other law enforcement agencies.

My campaign has received endorsements from organizations across the country and in Northwest Washington. Some of these endorsements include the Snohomish County Democrats, 32nd District Democrats, AFSCME Council 28, League of Conservation Voters, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Moms Demand Action Distinction, Reproductive Freedom for All/NARAL, Sierra Club, and the Committee to Protect Health Care.

My campaign has also been endorsed by over 60 current and former local elected officials across Northwest Washington. Their support is critical to ensuring I can continue listening to the needs of residents, experts, and local stakeholders and deliver for Northwest Washington.

If you are interested in joining my campaign, head over to my website at ricklarsen.org/volunteer. Come join my grassroots campaign to connect with voters across Northwest Washington and listen to their top concerns.

To stay updated on my campaign, be sure to follow my accounts on Facebook, Instagram or Bluesky. I look forward to earning your support.

It is an honor to serve Northwest Washington in Congress and to fight for our shared values, and I ask for your support to continue serving our community.

More soon,

Rick

Skagit County is Seeking Applications for Clean Energy Advisory Group

There will be two anti-transgender initiatives on the ballot in November.
IL 26-001 seeks to force schools to out LGBTQ+ students who tell school employees about gender questions, sexual orientation questions or nonbinary identity. Parents will have the right to access student counseling records, health records or records of conversations with teachers, school counselor and school nurses. Many of our students come out at school to a counselor or the school nurse or a teacher. This initiative will take away any rights these students have to privacy. This will have a huge impact on the safety of our students. Many parents are not supportive of gender identity questions on behalf of youth, so disclosure can place them in danger. And please note that in a political atmosphere like ours, our youth are constantly bombarded with messages about their lack of worth. This is driving increased rates of suicidal thinking and su***de attempts.

IL26-638 will implement a policy of ge***al exams in order for students to play sports. This won’t just affect trans and intersex students, but any student who is questioned. Our position is that cisgender students should also be required to undergo these same procedures. This initiative is based on the misunderstanding that gender is able to be determined by ge***al appearance, chromosomes, hormone levels or the birth certificate. Gender is way more complex than that as is sexual anatomy. Washington State implemented their policy on transgender participation in sports in 2007. This has worked well. And as we all know, it isn’t about sports or gender identity questions, it is about discrimination. We live in a State that provides strong anti-discrimination protections for students. There is no reason to change this policy. By the way, both of these initiatives are unconstitutional under Washington law. As a result, these initiatives with be challenged and will cost enormous amount in legal fees. Our money would be better spent on education NOT going after transgender youth. Enough, already!!!

The LGBTQ+ community will be calling on you to help advocate for our community against these initiatives. Please join in this fight by going to nohateinwastate.org and signing up as a supporter and a volunteer. We will need everyone to vote to support this. VOTE NO ON INITIATIVES THAT DISCRIMINATE.
