Thank you to everyone who joined us for Meet the Mission! ❤️

It was a wonderful evening connecting with new people and sharing meaningful stories that reflect the heart of our Rhode Island community.

Special thanks to our Board for their leadership and to the supporters who helped make the night a success.

In case you missed it: This past week we proudly presented Jayden and Jaxson Grayson with Lifesaving Awards for their heroic actions. Their courage was also highlighted in this story - a powerful reminder of the impact quick thinking can have. What began as a day at the beach quickly turned into a life‑or‑death moment, and these two brothers didn’t hesitate. Their instincts helped save multiple people caught in a dangerous rip current.

The Grayson brothers received the Red Cross’s highest lifesaving honor on Wednesday in recognition of their courageous effort in the summer of 2024 in Westerly, R.I.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a reminder to slow down and reconnect with what supports your well‑being. Spring is a time of renewal that gives us the space to try new things, welcome small adventures, and find moments of connection.

It is also a reminder that it is okay to not be okay, and that taking small steps toward feeling better truly matters. Even simple moments can help us feel more grounded. 🌻

May is Water Safety Month, and it’s an important reminder for parents and caregivers that supervision is the strongest layer of protection we can give kids around water. Even confident swimmers need an adult’s full attention, because drowning can happen silently and in seconds.

Encourage kids to follow this Whale Tales rule: swim as a pair with a lifeguard there. Whether you’re at the pool, lake, or beach, make sure someone is always watching the water and ready to respond.

This weekend, our volunteers proudly supported veterans during Honor Flight Rhode Island — a program that brings heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials honoring their service. The Red Cross is honored to support both this program and the veterans who have given so much. ❤️

May is Water Safety Month, and it’s the perfect time for parents and caregivers to refresh the basics. One of the simplest ways to keep kids safe around water is making sure they always wear a life jacket near lakes, rivers, or on a boat. Even confident swimmers can get tired or caught off guard. A life jacket gives you peace of mind and gives them an extra layer of protection. It's a win-win.

On this final day of Volunteer Appreciation Month, we celebrate the people who prove every single day that volunteers truly change the world. To every volunteer who shows up with a passion for helping others, thank you. You make our mission possible through every line of service.

You deliver comfort and care after disasters.
You teach lifesaving skills that empower communities to be safer.
You are the humanitarians who help support our region in times of need.

If you are someone who also wants to make a difference, then join us. Your skills and your heart matter more than you know. Learn how you can become a volunteer at www.redcross.org/volunteer.

Life throws curveballs from surprise power outages to sitting in a traffic jam longer than your gas tank planned for. Having a small survival kit on hand isn’t about fear, it’s about convenience and peace of mind.
A few essentials can turn an “oh no” moment into an “I’m glad I packed that” moment. Tell us in the comments what else you would add to this kit?

Volunteer Appreciation Week gives us the perfect moment to celebrate the superheroes who make our mission possible in our region.⚡

Every act of service begins with a choice to help, and our volunteers make that choice again and again. Our Trailblazers have contributed more than 1,000 hours, and our Champions have devoted 20, 30, 40, 50 and even 60+ years to alleviating human suffering. Their dedication shapes the heart of our work. At the center of this year’s celebration is our Volunteer of the Year, Cindy Guendert, whose 4,500 hours and 557 units of donated blood show what true heroism looks like in action.

We are powered by everyday heroes of all ages, including our youth volunteers and so many others who give their time, heart and energy. Thank you! Your commitment means the world to our communities.
