Spring is finally here which means that the 22nd Annual Providence Permanent Firemen's Relief Association Golf Tournament is right around the corner.

This year's tournament will be held at Triggs Memorial Golf Course here in Providence on Monday, June 1st, 2026 with a shotgun start promptly at 9am. Greens fees are $150 pet player or $600 for a Foursome. This includes an embroidered Golf Shirt as a gift, 18 Holes of Golf, Cart for 2, a Surf & Turf Dinner held at the Providence Firefighter's Hall immediately following the round of golf.

We also have Tee Sponsorships available ranging from $100 to $500.

Blazin’ Battle Against Brain Cancer 5k/10k

Jim Varin was a dedicated firefighter in the city of Providence for 31 years. He always expressed how extremely thankful he was to have a job that he loved so much.

In January of 2022, Jim’s life as he knew it completely changed. He was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, an aggressive and fatal form of brain cancer, at the young age of 52. Due to this diagnosis, Jim would never be able to return to his fire station and perform the job he loved.

Before his passing, just 13 months later, he talked about wanting to help others who may be affected by Glioblastoma down the road. I assured him that his death would not be in vain and that we would make sure some good came from him being taken from us too soon by such a relentless cancer.

The Blazin’ Battle Against Brain Cancer 5k/10k is not only a way to keep Jim’s memory alive and positively channel the pain so many of us feel in his absence, but most importantly it will fulfill Jim’s desire to help others who are faced with a brain or spine cancer diagnosis.

Your participation in this race will directly support The Rhode Island Brain & Spine Tumor Foundation’s (RIBSTF) mission to provide comprehensive support to those individuals, and families of those diagnosed, with brain or spine tumors and enhance their quality of life by providing education, spiritual and financial support, as well as to assist those who conduct research and wish to study this field.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for helping to make a difference in the lives of brain/spine cancer patients and their families. No one should have to go this road alone!

The Blazin’ Battle Against Brain Cancer is on Sunday May 17, 2026. It includes the following events: 10k, 5k, Virtual 10k, and Virtual 5k.

A big congratulations goes out to our members who participated in the American Ling Association Fight for Air Stair Climb.

In addition to raising 5,351.52$ and showing up with the largest firefighter team to support the cause they proudly took home some hardware!

Finishing with the 1st firefighting team, the first place overall male firefighter, and two of our female members finishing in the top three overall for female firefighters. Multiple other members topping out the charts in their age groups as well! It was a great day for a great cause!

Next Saturday our members will once again be participating in the American Lung Association’s Fight for Air Stair Climb to raise money for Lung Disease.

Our members will be in full gear racing 22 floors, 388 steps, to the top of the Omni Hotel in Providence.

This past Sunday our firefighters hosted and participated in a March Madness Basketball Tourney to raise funds towards our youth sponsorships in the city. Proud to say the members took home the trophy after a fun competitive day of basketball.

Thank you to the other departments who participated! Hopefully see you next year.

Big thanks and congrats to our members who travelled to Maryland to compete in the IAFF MDA Softball Championships. They had a good weekend with a 3-2 showing and kept the tradition alive of the Providence Firefighter’s being represented in Maryland. Hopefully we can get more people there next year! Strong work!
