💧 Ever wonder where Trinity water goes?

It’s one of Northern California’s most fascinating water journeys.

From Trinity Lake, some water continues west down the Trinity River toward the Klamath River and eventually the Pacific Ocean. But at Lewiston, part of it takes a completely different path — diverted through the mountains toward Whiskeytown, Keswick Reservoir, and the Sacramento River.

Along the way, it travels through dams, reservoirs, tunnels and powerhouses — crossing from one watershed into another.

We followed the water to see this incredible system for ourselves. 💦🏔️

Ever wonder where the water from Trinity Lake actually goes? 💧

It’s quite a journey.

From Trinity Lake, some water continues west down the Trinity River toward the Pacific. But at Lewiston, part of it takes a completely different route — diverted through more than 10 miles of mountain tunnel toward the Central Valley.

Along the way, it passes through powerhouses, Whiskeytown Lake and Keswick Reservoir before joining the Sacramento River.

I’ve driven by so many of these places without realizing they were all connected. Seeing the entire system changed the way I look at our local lakes and waterways.

Did you know Old Shasta once had a Jewish cemetery?

Just off Highway 299 sits a small piece of Shasta County history that thousands of people drive past without knowing its story — the Pioneer Baby’s Grave.

The grave is a reminder of the Jewish families who were part of this area during the Gold Rush era and the community that once existed around Old Shasta.

It’s one of those little places that makes you wonder how much history is hiding right alongside the roads we travel every day.

Hidden coves might just be the best part of Whiskeytown. 💦☀️

With 36 miles of shoreline, there are so many little spots to discover — and sometimes you find one that feels like you have the whole lake to yourself. 💙

I think I accidentally found their swimming hole. 😂🦦💦

I was stretched out on a rock along the Sacramento River, enjoying the water, when these guys showed up. Apparently I wasn’t the only one who had picked the perfect spot for a dip.

Just another little bit of wild Northern California magic. 💙

A perfect little picnic stop along Hat Creek. 🌲💦

One of the things I love about Hat Creek is just how cold and clear the water is. Much of the creek is spring-fed, with groundwater flowing through the volcanic landscape around Lassen. In some stretches, water temperatures can stay in the 50s°F — even during the heat of summer. 🥶💙

Pack a picnic, find a shady spot by the bridge, and enjoy the sound of that cold mountain water rushing by.
