The best part of a day on the river is making it home safely - a life jacket helps make sure you do. We have life jacket borrowing stations at all the popular river access points along the American River!

Labor Day weekend is here! If you’re heading to our parks or the river, take a few minutes to brush up on the rules and safety tips that help keep everyone safe.

🦺 Wear a life vest around the water
🚲 Ride smart and know the rules for bikes and e-bikes
🔥 Follow fire and smoking restrictions
🍺 Remember, alcohol is prohibited in designated parks and on the American River this holiday weekend
🗑️ Pack it in, pack it out

Heads up: A portion of nature trail at Ancil Hoffman Park will be closed beginning Monday, August 31, while maintenance crews work to replace a culvert. A detour is in place, and this stretch of trail is expected to be closed for 2-3 weeks.

Back-to-school season is underway, and we expect to see more kids and teens riding bicycles and e-bikes. Whether they’re commuting to school, meeting up with friends or enjoying the American River Parkway, now is a great time for young riders and their parents to review the rules of the road and the trails.

The message is simple: Ride Smart. Ride Safe. Ride Free. Know your ride, know your classification, know the rules, and make smart choices that help you enjoy the freedom of riding.

We're proud to partner with the Sacramento Police Department to help educate riders about California's e-bike laws and safe riding practices. In this video, one of our Sacramento County Regional Parks Rangers shares tips to help everyone safely enjoy our roads and trails.

A reminder for park visitors: Class 3 e-bikes are prohibited on our trails, and all riders should be courteous, obey posted regulations, and yield to pedestrians and equestrians.

If you're planning a visit to the American River Parkway on Saturday, August 8, please plan ahead! 🚴

The American River Parkway Multi-Use Trail will be temporarily closed from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. between Mile Markers 15.5 (Cordova Creek) and 16.5 to support a permitted special event.
