I have appreciated working with State Auditor Tina Cannon. I was pleasantly surprised to receive this letter today:

Dear Representative Thurston,
I want to personally thank you for your leadership during this session. You are a highly skilled statesman, and your involvement was instrumental in helping navigate the intense negotiations that occurred during a particularly high-tension period.
Because of your steady engagement and willingness to work toward common ground, we were able to secure statutory language that preserves the independence of the State Auditor while also protecting the integrity of the Legislature's role in the budgetary process. That balance is important not only for our office, but for maintaining strong and effective oversight on behalf of the taxpayers of Utah.
I am grateful for your commitment to thoughtful governance and for the role you played in helping reach a solution that strengthens both accountability and collaboration.
