Welcome to the Team Jackie! 🥳

Jackie joins Career Team as our Senior Delivery and Product Manager, bringing seven years of experience building software that actually works for people.

Her career in Government Tech has spanned modernizing how local governments manage budgets, expanding broadband access for Tribal communities, and helping Massachusetts residents navigate paid family and medical leave. Different roles, one goal: making public services more accessible, more human, and more effective.

That passion for technology in public service is exactly what drew Jackie to Career Team. She's energized by the product work she can do with the Career Edge platform, a technology that opens doors for people navigating their careers and contributing to economic growth.

When was the last time you genuinely celebrated something you did at work?

At Career Team's May All Staff, Dr. Jessica Anduiza and Abigail Gibbs-Holland, CWDP led a session on celebration as a practice, not a reward. The research is clear: even 20 to 30 seconds of deliberate acknowledgment triggers a dopamine release that reinforces the behavior that led to the win. The key isn't duration. It's intentionality.

For people in workforce services who are constantly pouring out to the VIPs they serve, acknowledgement is one of the few things that puts something back in. Celebration isn't indulgent. It's a resilience strategy.

We had an incredible time connecting with so many passionate workforce professionals at the 2026 NAWDP Annual Conference. Sharing our workforce development solutions and hearing about the amazing work happening across the country was energizing!

A huge shoutout to our Teamers Micaela Pearson, Maxine Tolenoa, Claudia Aceves, and Tiffany Alviso for their fantastic session, “Workforce Without Walls: Designing Mobile, Community-Based Access Across California.” They did a phenomenal job breaking down how mobile models in California are breaking down barriers and bringing services directly to the communities that need them most.

Please join us in celebrating Alysha Palmer, our newest Program Director!

Alysha has been an invaluable asset to our Jefferson Parish operations, bringing more than a decade of workforce development experience across Louisiana. She possesses a deep, well-rounded understanding of the industry, having successfully served in a variety of foundational roles, including Intake Specialist, Recruiter for the Workforce Innovation Fund (WIF) grant, and Unemployment Temporary Specialist.

Throughout her journey with us, Alysha has consistently demonstrated her commitment to quality and leadership. Her extensive background includes managing compliance as a Quality Assurance Interim, working directly with clients as a Career Advisor, and leading critical orientations for STEP, ABAWD, and SNAP Employment & Training programs.

When she isn't busy leading workforce initiatives, Alysha loves spending time with her family and her dog, participating in book clubs, and tracking her ambitious progress toward reading 100 books a year.

As she steps into this elevated leadership role, Alysha continues to keep our mission close to heart, sharing her favorite organizational guiding principle: Core Value #5: We Only Ask What We Are Willing to Do Ourselves.

Today, we are celebrating Desiree and her extraordinary journey through the VC HEAL Healthcare Careers program!

When Desiree enrolled, she had already been through some of life's hardest chapters. Years of addiction beginning at age 20, homelessness, and watching her sons suffer could have defined her story. Instead, they became the reason she decided to rewrite it!

Determined to change her path, Desiree connected with Career Team and enrolled in the Drug and Alcohol Counselor certification through the VC HEAL program. She showed up every single week, including voluntary life coaching sessions she did not have to attend, for five months straight. She completed her training and moved into an externship at Uturn Wellness, where she has already proven herself far beyond what anyone expected. She facilitates her own weekly group sessions, writes her own curriculum, and conducts supervised one-on-one sessions with clients.

Uturn Wellness has already told her they want to hire her once her externship is complete. And Desiree is not stopping there! She is already planning community outreach to bring hope directly to the streets where she once stood.

Desiree is deeply grateful to her Career Advisor, Magdalena Rodriguez and the entire VC HEAL team, as well as Onyx and Tony Pacheco, owners of Uturn Wellness, for walking alongside her on this journey. Desiree shared, "Today I stand a strong woman with purpose, pursuing a career to instill hope to those who stand where I once did. I did not get to this point alone, but I am proof that change is real, growth is real, and second chances are real."

We are thrilled to officially welcome Jody Toner to Career Team!

As a seasoned workforce development executive, Jody joins us with more than three decades of strategic and innovative leadership experience.

Having worked with two of Florida’s largest high-performing metropolitan workforce boards, she has established herself as a recognized strategist who can execute complex initiatives at both the strategic and operational levels. Throughout her impressive career, Jody has overseen large-scale operations with WIOA budgets exceeding $24 million and managed organizations with nearly 250 staff.

Her deep expertise spans the full spectrum of workforce programs including WIOA, TANF, Veterans Services, and SNAP E&T, while always driving improvements designed to enhance the customer journey. In addition to her executive roles, Jody provides consulting and strategic advisory services to workforce organizations nationwide to help them optimize performance and navigate complex initiatives.

What excites Jody most about joining the Team is the opportunity to be part of a dynamic organization that intentionally lives out its Core Values every day. She is inspired by Career Team’s ability to scale and innovate while remaining grounded in its mission, and she looks forward to contributing to a future that is both impactful and sustainable.

Today we celebrate Gwentessa and her incredible journey into the healthcare field! Stepping into an entirely new industry can be intimidating, but she proved that with the right preparation, the transition can be seamless. 🌟

When she first walked into the Farmington America’s Job Center in July 2025, she was looking for a fresh direction after resigning from her role as an overnight stocker at Walmart. At 25 years old, with no prior medical experience, she had a strong desire to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

She partnered with her Career Advisor, Tracee Loughran, to build a solid foundation before jumping into the classroom. Together, she utilized the Career Edge platform to polish her resume and map out a dedicated career plan, setting herself up for ultimate success. In September 2025, Gwentessa officially began her accelerated training in the fast-track CNA program at San Juan College.

She secured a position as a Kitchen Aide at Wellbrook Rehab Center while training, managing both without losing momentum. By November she had passed her exams, and in December 2025 she completed her coursework and passed the Nurse Aide Certification exam.

Gwentessa's hard work and stellar reputation at her workplace culminated in the perfect outcome. In January, she proudly shared that Wellbrook had offered her a promotion, allowing her to transition directly from the kitchen into her dream role as a Certified Nurse Assistant.

Reflecting on this rapid and successful career launch, Director Ericka Van Eckhoutte shared, "Her continued academic success reflected her preparation and commitment to the training."

Congratulations, Gwentessa! Thank you for your dedication to caring for others and for being a shining example of what is possible through the programs in Northern New Mexico.
