Fire Department drill and cleaning alert at the skate park! Please avoid the area.

On Tuesday, September 15th, from 12 - 4pm the Sitka Fire Department will conduct a hose sweep drill AND cleaning of the Turnaround Skate Park. Thank you Sitka Fire Department crews and volunteers for helping clean up a well loved City and Borough of Sitka recreation site!

Caution, there may be standing water on park features immediately after this drill.

Submitted concerns are forwarded to the operators involved for response and are included in the monthly TBMP report reviewed by the CBS Tourism Commission.

𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗢𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲

The Assembly discussed a new option for neighborhood waste disposal at their meeting last week:
• A new 15‑yard rolloff container (3,030 gallons) would become an official fourth service option, alongside the 48‑, 96‑, and 300‑gallon containers.
• A new Neighborhood Cost‑Share Rate would allow 40–80 households to share a single rolloff instead of individual curbside pickup. Neighborhoods would need to apply and meet eligibility requirements.
• A Public Good Rate would be available for qualifying schools, grocery stores, and state or federal government facilities, covering disposal‑weight costs only.
• A Standard Commercial Rate would be established for businesses that use the 15‑yard rolloff.

These changes aim to provide more flexible disposal options, support community institutions, and ensure fair, cost‑recovery‑based rates.

The Clerk's Office Quarterly Report to the Assembly Sept. 8: Making records easier to access and preparing for Election Day.

The new public records request portal is now available, giving community members another convenient way to submit and track public records requests online. The team also continues working to digitize municipal records and improve long-term access to City documents. https://cityofsitka.nextrequest.com/

USFS closed Blue Lake Road to vehicles and pedestrians for repairs until September 25.

Acting Sitka District Ranger Greg Dunn closed Blue Lake Road to all traffic, pedestrians and vehicle, for public safety. The road is estimated to be closed until Sept. 25

The City & Borough of Sitka is conducting emergency repairs due to unsafe conditions (plugged culverts and ditches) caused by previous slides and avalanches.

The City and Borough of Sitka Assembly invites community members to attend a community reception to meet Municipal Administrator Candidate Finalist Gerrie Cotter. This is an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the candidate.

The reception will be offered at two different times and will be held at Harrigan Centennial Hall, 330 Harbor Drive:

• Friday, September 18, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
• Saturday, September 19, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

This quarter, the CBS IT team completed upgrades to the Sitka Public Library's public computers, replacing aging equipment and making improvements to the technology that supports them.

The team is also continuing infrastructure upgrades across CBS, improving connections between facilities and replacing aging systems to help keep City technology reliable and connected so we can provide services to our community.

The IT team continues to support day-to-day operations while moving longer-term technology improvements forward. Thank you for working behind the scenes to support our employees.
