Check out our new crosswalk compliance sign at the school crosswalk at Bennett St. and Delaware Ave! 🚸

This location is one of 18 crosswalk study sites that are studied in a year - and this particular is one of two crosswalks that actually gets studied quarterly to monitor fluctuations.

Unfortunately, 37% compliance is lower than the usual observed number at this location. The goal is 100%!

School is back in session - Let's make sure we all respect crosswalks, as drivers and as pedestrians!

OVERNIGHT BLITZ OPERATION:
New School Crosswalk!

Walking patterns are not always obvious ahead of a new school opening... and sometimes more construction is needed to make crossings ADA accessible.

The new Pipkin Middle School's crosswalk at Grant & Lynn won't have the ramps or pedestrian activated lights yet till later this year, but Public Works and SPS' crossing guard contractor managed to get a stand-in crosswalk painted, signed and staffed - OVERNIGHT.
We are proud of our crew's dedication and the strong commitment of our partners.

🚨 Heads up! 🚨 The next Crosswalk Yield Check is this week at the crosswalk located at Jefferson and Bennett. Springfield, MO Police Department will be watching for both driver AND pedestrian violations so, as always:

DRIVERS: Pay attention, watch for walkers and yield to them in the crosswalk.

PEDESTRIANS: Cross safely and responsibly and use the crosswalk.

Heads up Drivers and Walkers! Springfield, MO Police Department is planning another crosswalk enforcement event NEXT WEEK at the North Glenstone HAWK signal.

Pedestrians: Cross at the HAWK and don't forget to push the button to activate the signal!

Drivers: Watch for walkers and obey the signal!

We'll be back at the HAWK signal on north Glenstone next week for another crosswalk enforcement effort!

Pedestrian safety continues to be a priority. Drivers and walkers both play a big role in keeping each other safe, especially when using the HAWK signal.

We're looking for drivers to stop at the HAWK signal when indicated.
We're looking for walkers to safely cross at the HAWK signal.

When we were there last week, one driver ran the red light and eight pedestrians made unsafe crossings. Even a handful of dangerous choices can lead to tragedy.

Let's work together to keep Springfield's streets safe!

PEDESTRIANS - Be sure to cross at the pedestrian activated signal and don't forget to push the button!

DRIVERS - be sure you stop! Once the two red lights are alternating in flash and any pedestrians have cleared the roadway - you may proceed.

Join us at the Cox Child Heath and Safety Fair!
Lots of fun safety games, cool giveaways and heavy equipment to explore!
Multiple City of Springfield, MO departments are here, including Public Works, the Zoo, Springfield, MO Police Department and the Springfield Fire Department. There is even a pop up safety town where kids can practice their bike skills, using their new (free) bike helmets! There are bouncies and ice cream and lots of cool games from the various represented agencies!
