🔶U.S. 24/K-4 ramp changes scheduled next week

Ramp changes at the U.S. 24/K-4 interchange north of Topeka are scheduled to take place next week, as part of the Kansas Department of Transportation’s U.S. 24 reconstruction project in Shawnee and Jefferson counties.

On Tuesday, Sept. 29, the westbound U.S. 24 exit ramp to K-4 will reopen to traffic. Once reopened, crews will then close the K-4 ramp to westbound U.S. 24. The ramp is expected to remain closed until December.

During the closure, drivers can follow the marked detour on NE 46th Street and Topeka Boulevard or find an appropriate alternative route.

All project work and traffic changes are conditions permitting and subject to change.

🔶Pavement project scheduled on I-70 in Shawnee County

A pavement patching project is scheduled to begin next week on I-70 in Shawnee County. The Kansas Department of Transportation’s 5-mile project includes both directions of I-70 between Valencia and Urish roads, just west of Topeka.

On Monday, Sept. 21, work will begin on westbound I-70, with traffic reduced to one lane in the active work area. Once complete, crews will shift to the eastbound lanes.

Intermittent ramp closures will occur as needed. Message boards and signage will be in place to alert and guide motorists. Traffic control will remain in place during non-working hours.

Conditions permitting, work will occur Monday through Friday during daytime hours until the winter shutdown period begins in mid-December. Any remaining project work will be completed next spring.

Iowa Civil Contracting Inc., of Victor, Iowa, is the $1.4 million project’s prime contractor.

⛔️I-70 ramp in Topeka to close for PQV project

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 8, the eastbound I-70 exit ramp to Topeka Boulevard will temporarily close for work on the Kansas Department of Transportation’s I-70 Polk-Quincy Viaduct (PQV) project in Topeka.

The ramp is expected to be closed for approximately two weeks. During the closure, eastbound I-70 traffic will be detoured to the MacVicar Avenue exit, then to 6th Avenue to Topeka Boulevard.

All project work and traffic changes are conditions permitting and subject to change.

🔶Wakarusa Drive closures being rescheduled on K-10/SLT project

The Kansas Department of Transportation is rescheduling the series of temporary closures on Wakarusa Drive in Lawrence due to utility relocation conflicts. The previously announced closures are part of the ongoing K-10/South Lawrence Trafficway (SLT) expansion project.

The first closure, between Clinton Parkway and the entrance to Miller Mart, started on Aug. 19 and was initially scheduled to be in place for 45 calendar days. The closure will now be extended by several additional weeks while adjustments are made to the design plans and construction work is completed in the closure area.

The second and third closures on Wakarusa Drive will be rescheduled to take place next year. Information will be provided in advance.

PLAN AHEAD: EB I-70 and NB U.S. 77 construction in Geary Co. could impact game day travel.

CLOSED: Eastbound I-70 on-ramp at Marshall Field will close during periods of high traffic (game weekends) in an effort to improve traffic flow.

Eastbound I-70 motorists: Traffic reduced to one lane between Henry Dr (Exit 301) and K-18 (Exit 303).

Northbound U.S. 77 motorists: Lane reductions just south of I-70 with temporary traffic signals to direct traffic around bridge construction.

Be prepared for possible traffic back-ups. Motorists are advised to leave early, if possible, and allow extra time or use alternate routes. Check kandrive.gov for current road conditions and construction info.
