School is back in session tomorrow, and so is school zone enforcement.

Drivers: Be alert and do your part to keep our kids safe. SLOW DOWN / PHONE DOWN / PAY ATTENTION AT CROSSWALKS

Parents: Talk to your kids about pedestrian safety, including following crossing guards' directions and exercising caution at crosswalks. Also keeping horseplay at a minimum near roadways.

Lastly, remember pickup lines are going to be backed up the first week while everyone gets used to the process. DEEP BREATHS, BE KIND!!

Kansas moved up to the highest category on the 2026 Safe Routes to School State Report Card!

As of July 1, per House Substitute for Senate Bill 366, it is illegal to manually hold a mobile telephone and use it while operating a motor vehicle in a school or road construction zone at a time when a reduced speed limit is enforced.

Kansas’s first School Zone Design Guide is here!

Developed in collaboration with KDOT's Multimodal and Traffic Engineering Bureaus and Toole Design, this new resource will help transportation professionals, school districts, local governments, and community advocates improve safety within the school zone and in the broader school area.

The Guide aligns with MUTCD standards while incorporating Safe Routes to School best practices. It includes guidance on signage, safety treatments, and practical tools to support safer school access for Kansas students.
