This , we are highlighting Community Action, Inc. (CAI) for their work helping Kansans move from poverty toward prosperity.

CAI continues to make a measurable difference in their service area through seven comprehensive programs, including housing, food, family, and safety assistance. Their recent impact data includes:

🏠 347 individuals served through housing programs.
πŸ”‘ 50 individuals occupied Community Action rental properties.
πŸ“¦ 8,220 individuals received food boxes and commodities.
πŸŽ“ 204 children received high-quality early childhood education.
🍎 53,570 nutritious meals served at Head Start facilities.

To close out , we're celebrating the May ribbon cutting at New Hampshire Lofts, which provides 49 affordable homes for seniors 55 and up in the City of Lawrence, Kansas - Municipal Government. The development was funded with state and federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits administered by KHRC.

Thanks to Lt. Governor David Toland for your remarks, the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce for hosting, and to the developer, Flint Hills Holdings Group for making more homes affordable for seniors in Kansas.

WSC-CAP operates five programs to assist Kansans, including:

The Housing Stability Program is specifically designed to assist households that are experiencing homelessness or instability due to an eviction or pending eviction.

This of , we recognize the impactful work of East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation (ECKAN) and their commitment to serving Kansans across 16 counties.

In 2025, ECKAN's dedicated efforts accomplished:

🏠 220 unduplicated active vouchers
πŸ’΅ $1,151,378 in quarterly Housing Assistance Payments (HAP)
πŸ“‹ 488 current households on the waitlist
🀝 82 active Housing Choice Voucher landlords
🏑 53 ECKAN-owned rental units

ECKAN provides vital services to low-income individuals and families, including case management, food assistance, Head Start, housing vouchers, rental housing, and weatherization programs.

One example of their impact came in late October 2025, "ECKAN discovered a serious, emergent issue with the plumbing under one of its rental units. This left the family without access to a kitchen or a bathroom. ECKAN placed the family in a hotel, and within three days, the problem was solved with the help of two amazing contractors, Burns Handyman and Blue Heron Plumbing."

Congratulations to Smith Center Economic Development and Smith County Kansas Clerk on a successful event celebrating the rehabilitation of Hannah Heights!

With $650,000 in MIH grant funding, the old county hospital building in Smith Center, KS, is being transformed into 33 new apartments.

We wish Rural ReDevelopment Group great success with the renovation and look forward to seeing how this project helps Smith Center grow.
